Who Makes Money From Bail?

40

When someone finds themselves in jail, they can often gain their freedom while they await trial by posting bail. But even small bails amounting to just $500 or $1,000 can prove unaffordable for many. In fact, 40% of Americans say they could not afford an unexpected $400 expense, according to the Federal Reserve. Bail bonds offer a way out. Bond companies will post bail for defendants in exchange for a fee of about 10-15% of the total bail amount.

  1. I wold like to se tell my story in Pulaski conunty Arkansas. I what’s there for to month and I was denied the one phone call after I was able to pay it myself I wish I can have more info.

  2. Y'all saying "just don't do crime" or don't get arrested" just stfu its obvious y'all do not understand law, prejudice, racism and racial discrimination that's still largely afflicting pocs. Not only are poc mostly black and latino ppl more likely to be stopped by police and arrested but also to have their stuff stolen through civil asset forfeiture, and even if the person did commit a crime you gotta ask why, could it be he and his family lives in poverty or he could not get a good education when he was a child bc school funding comes from nearby property value and redlining is still being done by banks. Y'all wonder why the recidivism rate is 43%, and also then nail on finland for allowing murderers to walk free even through their recidivism rate is only 33%.

  3. All Stores Please Lower the price of all Military and Local for all Brands of Bondsman For First Time Offenders Products and Accessories and Production Cost Now That's too much $$ The Whole World Now 🙏🙏🙏

  4. They are ruining families!!!! Let whatever God do to them and have mercy on there merciless souls!!! These is book entry securities fraud! All Local , county and states are under Municipal Bond!! Go to Municipal Securities…. put a lien on there BOND!!! its 15 USC 1 Trust fraud

  5. Society looks down on the so called POOR right but then big business likes these and the legal system make their money on low income, largely black and brown companies. Not minority such as Asian or anything like that. Wealthy people know how to keep their money and can fight abuse in court they aren’t targeted as much to say carry a police departments excessive budget to militarize itself. They take from the minority to protect the rich while also staying out of sight unless needed. This world is so backwards.

  6. 11:30 he said if they had grounds Id think they would be suing us right now. That’s a bunch of bs! If a defendant has to go to a bail bonds to begin with, it’s usually because they can’t afford to just bond out on their own and if that’s the case you can also assume they can’t afford a lawyer to take a bail bonds company to court to sue and do that while juggling their current case. It’s the perfect industry to get over and justify why the rip off goes on if they even admit to that, but it’s in their contracts in fine fine print way at the back or deep in the middle of all the paperwork work one signs with these people. This shouldn’t be legal. It leaves so much room for abuse with your freedom at stake. 300$ extra because you didn’t have enough for just that expense but covered the bond and looking at Jail when it wasn’t even a condition required by the courts then ripping off the person that comes to pay it just because you can, that is discussing! Are we in Ukrainian???? Or some 3rd world where citizens are fired to pay up or else. The only difference here is full blown business and contracts are made up around such scams but to me don’t make them any more damn legitimate!!! They just happen to be in a business that’s sue proof and they know their clients can’t afford to sue them or they wouldn’t need their services to begin with.

  9. Land of the free- my foot. This is extortion – I am sure the judges cops and prosection attorneys are all paid bribes/commissiins to keep this industry running and profitable.😢

  10. There was one bailbondsman l remember that called me. He stated he was right across the street, had a talking plant, had an obsession with walnuts, stated he was an ex felon(he should be fired??) very racist, and rude. I personally think he was drunk at the time but very unprofessional!

  11. In other words bail bondsman are committing crimes left and right because they know they can get away with it…… Ugggg…. which means they are extorting doubling tripling fees taking the person away at the time of their trial their court date is pathetic and the bail bondsman should go to jail for that for disrupting this person's life in a way that cannot be "brought back"

  12. Complaining about everyone except lawyers. Getting a lawyer is a tier economy as well, but let’s not regulate the money lawyers get who become judges and make the deals. How bout lawyer fee regulation? Another question would be, how does the victim feel?

  13. People are very angry because they can't live off the poor anymore. Even the civil rights scam lived off of the poor!!! White and black politicians lived off the poor. We saw in many states on the east coast people setting up the poor so they could live off of their suffering.
This just a financial war against the poor and those deemed vulnerable and by themselves by many who have no morals and are a danger to a newer society.

  14. What's even crazier is that you can't post your own bail even if you have you have actual cash (and/or a CC or debit card) on your person. They confiscate your personal belongings when you're arrested leaving you no option other than being bonded out. And bail for misdemeanor charges are more like $1000-$5000

  15. "It starts a cascade of bad consequences."
As much as I want to keep the guilty locked up, I entirely emphasize with that. You get arrested, which causes you to miss work. You get fired, miss rent or mortgage, your credit score gets hit, you have a hard time getting another job, possibly lose your apartment or house.

All the while your family is mad and disappointed with you, and you're living in fear of getting sent to prison.

All because you can't afford to bail out. (And $1500 is a huge amount of money, when you're scraping together $20 so you can afford groceries for your kids.)

And you might not even be guilty.

  16. Racial disparity? Hmm could it be that certain populations of folks just commit crimes in higher numbers? Just because it's an uncomfortable truth doesn't mean it isn't true.
