After US threatens ban, what could TikTok’s next move be? | DW News

49

The US is poised to ban TikTok unless the social media app cuts its ties to China. US lawmakers overwhelmingly voted for a bill which forces the Chinese owner to sell the app to an owner from a country other than China or face a total ban. The US is that the social media service could be used to collect American citizens’ personal data and that it poses a threat to national security. China has protested, saying it’s unfair to use those arguments to bring down the competitive advantage of other countries.

  1. USA helped to grow Red China, so it can have a RIVAL that US can compete.

    Since 2018? during Trump administration.

The US administration now treats Red China as a powerful rival, just like they did with the Soviet Union during the cold war and Germany, France in pre world war, Spanish, British in the colonial era.

Red China has COME OF AGE.

    🥹💯🤚

  2. If we cannot compete we will ban it , if they won’t sale it we will ban it wkwwk these are western policies to contain china like it mafia extorts they victims

  3. From the comments from many, is proof that media is misleading.

China did not want to ban Facebook and YouTube, they asking China user data server place in China. However, Facebook and YouTube don’t want to do so.

  4. It is not only about data privacy. It is also about are the laws enforceable? Is China enforceable like other us companies? The answer is no. Thus ticktock should be ban.

  5. If Tik Tok is such a good media for free speech, I challenge trusting Tik Tok bloggers to proudly post

"Proud of One Child policy (1979 to 2015) !!! Long Live PRC!" A way of giving credit to PRC government!

  6. Let's call a spade a spade, the google and FB are allowed to be in China if they follow the Chinese law, that's exactly the US is trying to do now, but TikTok at least did try to follow the US law, whereas google and FB did not want to do that. So it is the politicians try to get their political gains by anti China, but this time they made a wrong calculation, as they are against of their own 170m users.

  7. The reality is there are so many people in us using tik tok and they doesn't want to tik tok banned so they are just ignoring the national security and being baised on tik tok….🤡

Who ever that are supporting the bill of the ban of tik tok they are the true Americans 🗿

And by the way don't listen to the people who are commenting their opinions in the ban of tik tok "On" Tik tok 💀

  8. Just to remind you Google , Facebook quit Chinese market themselves because they don’t want to follow Chinese media law which applies to all businesses in China. Tiktok follows American laws but still get banned. That is the difference.

Come on , is that hard to admit the US government simply wants to own TikTok because it is successful. Same story happens again and again.

  9. The reason why the chinese government ban the google,Facebook is they refuse to deploy their services to servers located in China, refuse to open the data access to chinese government. This is choice that google and facebook made. But Apple follow the requirement well, everyone could use apple's services in China. Tiktok did everything required by the US regulations like Apple did in China. You should not just compare TikTok with Facebook and Google, compare the TikTok with Apple.

  10. The modern generation especially young generation is greatly affected by this site. Personally it signifies nothing because the contents contain less educative value as well as waste of time. Individuals don't maintain their personality sometimes.

  11. I mean, China bans almost all foreign Apps right? But banning TikTok in a so sales “free world” is hypocritical to say the least. Just like China said “This will come to bite the US itself”. This is ridiculous.

  12. You know what they say…. all great powers had double standard…

Is that chinese ministry of foreign affair spokeperson gonna be alright tho? You know if you criticise the chinese government you could very well dissapear without a trace…..

  13. Tik tok is a good money making machine ….to force tik tok to sell is like daylight robbery…..tik tok will never sell and if US needs to ban its user than tik tok will just move on with no US users …

  14. As a Chinese, I say this is absolutely a legitimate concern. If we acknowledge that ccp has full access to data collected by Wechat, Taobao, Alipay or any other apps in China, why would we assume that this is not happening to Tiktok?

  15. TikTok says it won't share data with CCP even if asked. Well what about it's coerced? Or any other shady stuff? You never know. Never underestimate CCP. It has power hands without oversight. Take action before it's too late.

  16. what the spokesperson says targets the Chinese audiences, and sadly it works as the Chinese cannot click away from this kind of narrative as there's no space at all for any other views that deviate from the CCP's. Over time people's common sense get distorted and they simply accept what was being fed to them.

  17. Wait wait wait . They are threatening TikTok to sell or ban it . Hmmmmmm sounds like some corruption to me right here in the US. If the bill pass and my revenue stops then everyone should file a suit against the government. They don’t have no proof of any security matters. We at national security risk right here in the USA. So US government stop the BS. This is not your country
