Analysis: How the US election could impact Cuba’s economic crisis

University of Pennsylvania Associate Professor Amalia Dache analyses how the upcoming presidential election will influence the economic situation in Cuba.

Cuba’s communist leadership is facing a fierce backlash that has not been seen since similar protests in July 2021.

These protests, which began over economic hardships and government repression, have now evolved into a broader call for political reform.

“As far as who’s going to represent more of the Cuban people’s needs, it may seem like the Republican or Republican candidate, but in reality, we don’t know if it’s going to align largely with the political needs and the policy needs of an entire Cuban community that’s multi-generational, that’s also a bit liberal,” Ms Dache told Sky News Australia.

“But when it comes to Cuba policy, typically the Republicans are the ones that do a better job.”

  1. In July 2023 the Biden administration brought in legislation that means if you visit Cuba for a vacation from an ESTA country, such as UK, you will not be allowed to visit the USA with an ESTA. You would need to attend the US Embassy for an interview to get a Visa. Biden has destroyed Cuban tourism with this ruling as most of us would prefer to keep our ESTA travel arrangements to visit the USA.

  2. It’s okay Trump has it covered….he will sort it after he is re elected…….he’ll send them all one his $60 bible he’s now flogging off…that’ll save Cuba and the Cubans.

  3. Economic crisis is Cuba's default setting. Cuba's only hope for survival is if America doesn't become a shithole (communist)country. If that happens and Cuba is hit by hurricane Godzilla, no one is coming to the rescue.
