The ‘right to repair’ movement received good news from Apple in November 2021. The company will begin providing customers with genuine Apple tools, parts and manuals in 2022. CNBC first spoke with iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens before Apple’s new repair policy was announced, and caught up with him after the news over Zoom.

Apple’s New Fix-It Policy Is Not The End For ‘Right To Repair’
source
There is a huge loophole in this law. Really we should just boycott these products until they do the right thing.
i hope people learn to ignore apple just as apple ignores their customers' needs. Apple has no definition of what the word Fair means. (Soldered SSDs since 2016 and overpriced by 4x compared to any other SSD manufacturer. 2TB @Apple costs 800$ while on Amazon any 2TB Samsung/Sabrent/Kingston/Seagate costs 200$.)
let's be honest they just want you to buy a new one .
M1 Mac does not even allow to upgrade your disk or ram.
Lmao
Kkkkk Apple is laughing In your faces with Mac Studio anti repair/upgrade!
No right to repair, no thief would bother to steal.
8:10 I'm sorry what kind of journalism it is, where you can see this progress made by apple?!
The only progress we can see is the hard work of people like Louis Rossmann, Kyle Wiens …, thanks to them, people are more aware and begin to demand what we lost years ago.
7:20 just to be clear Dell has been making terrible products from a right to repair point and still is very much continuing the trend.
Their prototype is a nice PR stunt but nothing near to a real product, unlike framework
If I can't repair what I own because I need some proprietary tool… then I never owned the product in the first place.
I totally support this movement.
* so awesome with ☝️they sent me another 0.2btc to my wallet today!! Really earning here so the best
I am completely cured with no sides effect i used #Druromi herbal medication
After been scammed several times i eventually met ☝️ who flipped $10,000 into my PayPal account
The mofos know they can't stop the movement so they pivoted to look good. This is good for the economy too meaning new business will sprout from these.
Finally Apple will fix there Huge Mistake.
Nokia should learn from this story.
So nice when the loud music stop during the report…
"Life seems so much simpler when you are fixing things" ~ Anakin Skywalker
We'll find out with the iPhone 14 that comes out later this year. Because of its rumored thick physical design, it may borrow some technologies from the Fairphone, especially with the likelihood of easier battery replacement and easier replacement of the rear camera module.
So will this bring back Radio shack?
American companies are the biggest looters in this world.
Perfect!
The "green" thing to do would be to make them more easily repairable. Keep that stuff out of the landfills.
No right to repair less iPhone theft
Apple should be Nuked
NO ONE :
APPLE : That’ll be $249.99 for a new iPhone 12 digitizer 🤡
idk some thing seems fishy with how there now willing to sell parts
That's what the power of the people's movement and the law means for consumers!
PR Stunt to circumvent legislation.
Frepair free
when will this happen for personal vehicles? it's ridiculous how complicated they have become.
It's absolutely the beginning of the end, however.
Less Garbage if this is the thing
This is why I stopped buying apple products. They force you to buy new products every 2 years. The updates slow down your phone or the battery is trash.
So this is why this greedy company has a 3 trillion dollar market cap
CNBC. I don’t know how you do it. But you ALWAYS manage to squeeze race into every single video. Thanks for staying divisive as always. 🙄 Also to do a right to repair video and not include Louis Rossmann. Sacrilege!
Losing clients is not good huh?
Complaining is the easy thing to do. Stop buying Apple. It is that simple. Yet more legislation on top of innovation. Apple can comply with any regulation you can throw at it, others can't.
Why bother with repairing? It takes too long. Just go buy a replacement. It’s so much faster, that’s why I do it 🙂
No Apple did not.
Doctors vehemently oppose right to self operate.
Apple only has itself to blame for the mounting pressure. Had they not practiced predatory business ethics, people would've been fine having their devices fixed by certified apple technicians. Instead, customers are recommended(if not encouraged or pressured) to buy new parts or devices for minor issues. Also, manufacturing their products to decline to non-functional state after a rather short period of time compared to competitor's devices. Forcing customers to constantly buy new devices.
I have been replacing screens and batteries on iphones since the iphone 5c, always been easy
Only iPhones??? COME ON APPLE NOT EVERYONE JUST HAS IPHONES. SOME OF THEM ARE LITERALLY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ENTIRE MACS . I WANNA SEE IPAD AND MAC REPAIRS THIS YEAR TOO.
if apple had their way it would be illegal to open your phone
I think you also need to credit Louis Rossman for championing this effort..
We are still living in a digital feudalism where everything require internet and online services.
If the company that made your product shuts down, and their servers are closed, what you bought from them loses most of its functions or becomes totally useless.
You will own nothing and be happy.
Consumers are the real sucker buying these products
When Covid hit you soon realized that there’s no intelligent life out there, not talking about aliens either I’m talking about people.
It's just another gimmick from Apple's anti RTR playbook.
It's fine, I like renting my iPhone for $1200.
