Many are questioning the condition of the condo that collapsed in Surfside, Florida, after the condo board president warned residents that the building was deteriorating earlier this year. USA Today senior politics and economy reporter, Wendy Rhodes, joins News NOW to discuss how the letter described the building’s condition and how local officials are responding to the report.

Sadly there are hundreds of similar buildings like a ticking bomb in FL. The video below shows how we have fixed some similar buildings worldwide at significantly lower costs. The US military uses this system worldwide also.

Flow the Money.. Where is it ? how long has the city been hiding that area been taking on Sea Water ?
Concrete deterioration was progressing by the minute. . .the lack if transparency I'll take them to court
The good president waited too long. The town building inspector was full of cocaine.
Sad that this photographer killed himself, I believe.
Why would people still buy condos after this? A caravan would have been safer, yes?
Not white supremacists or trumps fault somehow NBC?
When my mom was the president of a HOA for her condo, she bravely fought the other owners in order to carry out expensive structural repairs. Let me tell you, they hated her for having to spend, but at least they are alive and still have their homes.
This is why I would never live in a high-rise or apartment Tower and prefer one story places
Safe occupancy reports need backed up with a bond for the value of the structure plus belongings and loss of life. Either the reports are valid or not worth the paper they are written on.
ARREST THE WEALTHY GREEDY OWNERS FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE!
Beamless structure. Floors connected directly to columns through concrete joints with even a chapitel on each. Ground floor got punctured by columns, colapsing down to the parking basement at jacuzzy area and exposed columns to get bending laterally by the entire upper building's collosal weight. The bended colums soon collapsed consequently, taking off the balance and support to the rest of the upper structure. Structure start to break and quickly descend, gaining momentum and pulling down lateral parts of the building. Center front and rear part compressed everything while falling down. Right side remained few minutes upright, but with no lateral support anymore, it twisted and broke down too in the same way.
With no beams on each floor, by loosing the force balance, the weak joints at the floor plates and columns broke down one after other, cascading in a grinded mountain of steel, concrete, stone, glass and fornitures. In between, the life of the victims.
You can deduct all from the published videos, the pictures of the remaining standing part (later quickly demolished) and many aerial views.
Alright…. Hindsight is always 20/20. As everyone is so quick to point their finger, I must once again point out we've never experienced a catastrophic failure of this magnitude in the US before. There is really no benchmark for any inspector to claim the structure was in imminent danger of catastrophic failure. We can only point out the damage we can see, the probable damage we can't see. When noting probable hidden degradation, we refer to repairs undertaken at other locations where the concrete has been chipped away to expose hidden degradation. With that information we suggest measures the owner should take to remedy the seen and possible hidden degradation. No two structures are identical. No two floors are 100% identical. There are thousands of variables to take into consideration. One being the exact concrete mixture. No two batches are identical. Thanks to modern processes batches are nearly identical in makeup. But not exact. 40 years ago, the differences between batch were pretty clear. However, I the minimum standard was met, the batch was accepted.
We must focus on preventing a repeat of this unimaginable tragedy, rather than pointing fingers. We will know a likely cause. Let's not sensationalize every bit of communication or piece of "evidence". Instead we must focus on healing, supporting the victims and their families, as well as preventing this from ever happening again. We can all agree, with hindsight, clear signs and opportunities for clarification of the structural integrity of the structure were missed. That's not to say, mistakes were made. If so, those mistakes will be exposed and rectified once a cause has been discovered. As always in these situations, the rumors are flying, new information is exposed, and old dirt is brought to the surface. The cause of this unimaginable tragedy has not been discovered. We will use this to change the industry. This catastrophic failure will serve as a learning tool to make changes and improve the industry.
Again I must stress we have never experienced a sudden catastrophic failure of an occupied structure of this magnitude in the US, outside of a terrorist attack. Please respect and focus on the victims and their families. They as well as the rescuers need our love and support.
Cheers!
I am sure the workers on ground zero are doing their best. I wonder if they thought about conveyer to move the debris out faser?
Well one thing we know is you don’t need a condo association, or hoa to deem a building unsafe and have tenants removed. Those reports just made it to the city, to be reviewed after it collapsed.
i went to the building a week before it fell and i have 2 friends that live there thankfully they got out in time prayers for the people still stuck
Agreed…people making excuses.
and that caused all of the support to fail simultaneously?
I don't know why you guys keep calling it a collapse. That was a demolition.
The mayor lady is clueless, the surfside mayor guy is completely lost! Omg this debauchery needs to end like on the second day! God help Miami, I pray for the victims families just lingering in agony! I've seen comments of people mentioning about people surviving through earthquakes but this collapse is lightyears different than an earthquake! I have been working on the west coast , I've been in so many highrise buildings , so this is touching a nerve in me and I'm still in disbelief that a building crumpled like pancakes with bread crumbs!!
More should have, could have. But no would…
So here they are. More people need to be like squeaky wheels to get the job done.😐
Terrible state of affairs, but as long as the construction companies can wash their hands of what they build and hand responsibility to third parties, they will continue to build substandard structures that possibily just make the accepted building codes (or bribe someone to look the other way)
America's infrastructure is crumbling and this is just another symptom of corporate greed and the acceptance that everything must bow to the almighty dollar (at least the ones in corporate pockets: if there's any room left between the money and the politicians).
Check your home for cracks before you go to bed tonight 😥🤔
This is why i will never live in a high rise building. No one knows how to build anything correctly. Just cheaply.
Crooked businesses! I pray 🙏 everyone Wins their lawsuit!
This was known two years ago, nobody bothered shutting it down then.
Being on a board of a HOA I can tell you the vast majority of people won't even participate in annual meetings. So a few people who step up are left high and dry. In our townhome community we had 52 units. Only 8 or 9 people would show up and that's a good night!. People expect someone else to take care of problems. My advice is to stay involved even if you are not on the board. It could mean your safety. Many brains working together is better than a dozen or less.
That is what HOA fees are for, I would not pay a dime to these crooks, ask them where All the MONEY went, people change the law or best yet Don't buy if it has HOA fees, sue for your money back.wake up to these crooks.
Time to start arresting people, including government officials, time to hold everyone accountable
Luke 13:4,5,
Very Good!.
I’ve seen TripAdvisor pictures of the repair work before said date????
WHAT A SHAME THIS HAPPENED WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MORE RECENT BUILDING INSPECTION.
