  11. Netanyahu says what he’s not willing to do, but not what he’s proposing to do in many aspects. Similarly US does the same in respect to Rafa—if Israel should not fight Hamas there, then what should Israel do? Stay in current situation for ever? Leave Gaza and let Hamas regroup? Without proposing tangible alternative to fighting Hamas in Gaza, it feels like there isn’t a tangible alternative. And then Netanyahu gets stronger for objecting a non realistic solution.

I pray that there would be a fruitful path forward as they seek justice and safety for Israel 🇮🇱 and provision for those Palestinians who are not involved in the violence 🇵🇸. That you would make a way where there seems there is no way. That you move in hearts of all the people's in the region and the world. Protect those who are working for good, whether it be the soldier or the doctor or the faithful ministers or the journalist or leaders. I pray for fruitful vision toward the future and discernment.

  15. Warnings are meaningless when you already know they are ignored. Five months, that's how long you knew starvation was inevitable. That's how long you allowed what you knew was indiscriminate bombing. That's how long you did nothing.

    Oh, I'm sorry, I'm wrong and I should take that back. That's how long you supplied them with the weapons they used to commit crimes against humanity. That's how long you were complicit in what by the legal definition of genocide, the ICJ is extremely likely to eventually find Israel guilty of.

    Words don't save lives. And the only words that ever would have mattered would have been to condemn Israel's actions and to call them what they were. To put pressure on them to stop. Not to veto every UN resolution seeking a ceasefire, not to constantly talk about your support for Israel's absolute right to defend itself. Because ius ad bellum, and to be clear, they have violated the laws governing war times beyond counting, going back decades. I could list all the provisions of the Geneva conventions they've violated, but all anyone has to do is go and read them and mentally check them off on your own.

    Ius ad bellum carves out a justification for wars of self-defence, but the law concerning bellum iustum also provides a long list of prohibitions on categories of action, and protections for civilians, and many particular categories of individual, group and site. All of these have been violated consistently.

    The absolute right to defend yourself is a fiction, because it isn't absolute, indeed, no right ever is, and this isn't a right, it's a justification for war. In the same way that self-defence isn't a right, it's a defence under criminal law, and incidentally, self-defence is also itself justified by appeal to the highly circumstantial prioritisation of one life over another in the event that one party is engaging in illegal violence. That is to say, it's only narrowly construed to cover proportional and necessary violence to save innocent life from the use of unlawful violence.

    Self-defence in war cannot include collective punishment, it cannot ever justify genocide, it cannot under any circumstances justify violations of the rules of war. If anything, those things abrogate the self-defence justification.
