The Motion: This House Believes The West Has No Right to Impose Environmental Standards on Developing Countries

Kriti Joshi opens the case for the opposition, as the second speaker of six in the debate.

The individual in this video is a competitive debater, and therefore the views expressed may not necessarily represent his/her beliefs.

The motion was defeated.

ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world’s most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: https://oxford-union.org/supportus

  1. She used hair straightener to make her hair straight and now giving lectures on climate change. I hate hipocrates. Climate change can be cured only by our way of living. Using air conditioner, eating meat, wasting crop lands by growing food for live stocks, will not even give a damn on climate change.

  2. 🚩🚩🚩 सब बोलो एक साथ, एक ही नारा, एक ही नाम, 🕉️🕉️जय श्री राम, जय श्री राम🚩🚩🚩🕉️🕉️🕉️

  3. Yes she on the ball The world is going to end First we had Religion for over 2000 years saying the world is going to end Now climate change has taken over and guess what 2050 world is going to be to late to save This girl is just over the top JEEZ

  4. Excellent speech Kriti, only criticism is I wish you would stay still. I imagine its nerves that made this young lady dance through her speech. Nevertheless I hope Kriti continues to pursue this imperative topic. This speech was from seven years ago, what has changed? Think the title of Kriti’s followup speech will be ‘Is anybody listening!'

  5. 1:15 One correction:- padhe likhe ho to kuch bhi na bole aaj agar aap develpoed hai yo usi fossil fuels ka uncontrolled use kiya hai aur aaj agar developing nation use kare to wo climate affect. Its called doglapan

  6. The way of her delievery and the pre informations she gathered for that is so precise and excellent ❤…. those who are in against of the minor discrepancies will not be able to write even 2 pages on that ( IF YOU CAN'T SAY GOOD SAY NOTHING)

  7. i wish as an indian she would pointed out the practical problem and solution since so called these developed countries are outsourcing the products which is come out of polluted place (become polluted because of manufacturing and others) which i am not blaming them for,but u cant put blame on those shoulders for trying to gain prosperity as western countries did before instead think of solution for climate change to go hand with hand with their progress,i like her speech and pronounication /humour and all but for me she did not highlight anything new…since this is oxfords,i dont have expectation from this organisation except good vocabulary

  8. There is approximately 3300 gigatons of CO2 in the atmosphere right now as we speak. I havent kentiined SO2, HFCs, PM2.5 and others yet. Some of it is absorbed by oceans and trees, but the rest is also very dangerous to Human and animal life. But our fast cars won't go! Overconsumption doesn't stop! Just keep those lights on. Cut the damn trees and make furniture. Keep the water flowing and then talk about climate change. All these blunders are happening as we speak.

  9. Good speech. Hi, I am an engineer and scientist from India. I build early warning systems and have now begun making contingency systems. Now, lets come to the practical questions? How many cars 8:36 does your family have? How much smoke are you chugging into the atmosphere? Be honest!
