Feeding a family on a food stamp budget

Healthy food is hard to come by in many sections of Bridgeport, CT. Especially on a food stamp budget. We follow a single mother shopping as she tries to make her SNAP benefits stretch.

  1. I hope they one day see this video as they have gotten older and start or magnify such a deep love and respect for their mom… at those ages they don’t know their mom is a luxury, making it happen everyday for them. Man if your mom is still here & went to war and h*ll and back just to protect you plz hug her and love on her. ❤⭐️ they’re real superhero’s & superstars.

  2. Too much food gets wasted so food banks or pantry's are so needed. When I see basics on offer at the store, I pick up a few things and put them into the instore drop off for the local food bank. I have experienced food poverty myself so I can relate to others going through this. I found that a meal plan was essential and you have to miss out on the usual treats like sweets and chips. I joined a free garden food course and they taught us so much about getting the best from healthy produce. Some people there had no idea how to put together a nutricious meal so it was a good course. Our local library was giving out bags of mixed toiletories like deo, toothpaste and shower gel. I am so grateful to the people who organise all these things. Thats why I always try to donate food etc back, now my life is more finacially stable.

  3. Hold on . $756 for 5 ppl, that’s plenty. And back in 2010. That alone is plenty of money for food. I’m paying about $380 a month for me my wife and 4 year old. And we buy organic sometimes. And it’s 2024. I’m sure this woman has it very hard though. But I don’t see how she can have it bad food wise. Comments?

  4. Sadly, packaged and processed foods are more "affordable" as they are readily available and keep longer. Fresh produce does not stay fresh for long. Hard to find a healthy balance these days $$$

  5. Honestly there is so much food waste in grocery stores/restaurants/etc. that everyone should have a right to it. I work in an Amazon grocery facility and we donate SO much stuff.

  6. ?what hap to the veg/fruit wagons? my mom tol me here used to be a guy who would go up and down the hood with veggies and fruits in downtown brooklyn/manhattan 60 years ago.

  7. 4:47 HELLOO!!?? it literally just said “even if unemployment is cut by half the ones asking for food stamps are up 15%” so thats NOT the problem? america is so messed up

  10. She recieves foodstamps her kids shouldnt be still taking up space for weekend take home programs ,there getting free breakfast , lunch, snacks she sending with them to snack on damn.. kids in that exact school even as close as in the same class room dont have those resources gota look out for each other. Give one of those blessings to a child who doesnt have free breakfast, lunch , snacks, 2nd maybe /3rd servings of spaghetti for dinner…..thats a sad part of this video being ignored.pay it forward help anothrr child who would love to come home from school to a meal as well or having a program they can be comfortable in knowing theres something for them as well being able to have a guaranteed meal sure her kids would be fine without being on another food resource program made for kids who arent being fed during weekends some not even during the whole school day she should think of them each time she fill out paperwork while dinners cooking at the same time that would be taking from another child .There taking spots kids who arent eating on the weekend could use telling a child they dont have room on a program list to feed them while her kids are using that program for weekend snacks basically between meals is crazy let another child be able to be asked how there enjoying a meal or eat at a desk during a lesson .

  11. I'm 91 years old and don't need food stamps. I started out with nothing , but at least, my parents supported me until I was 18. After that I was on my own, but I planned my life wisely.
