Ita a room and books with a teacher lecturing… guess that takes a mortgage now. That's bs
Obviously it depends on the field of study. Nobody wants a surgeon that went to YouTube university, or an aeronautical engineer designing their airplane who just read some books from the library.
I'm 38 and a high school dropout when I was 17 I started saving money and bought equipment to start a auto detailing business now I'm in the process of starting a pressure cleaning business, pool cleaning service and house cleaning business planning on also starting a lawn care business I'll hire immigrants for all business
I work an entry level job and made 120k last year. my wife is a BA RN and makes less. Find the right Industry.
Less college degrees, less competition.
Go to a Community College and get a healthcare degree in two years. There is basically a job waiting for you at graduation. Fields such as Nursing and Dental Hygiene are earning up to six-figures. My BA did nothing for me. My degree in Dental Hygiene (2-year degree) made me comfortable.
The education one gives themselves be more profitable
It never was worth it in life it’s who and what you know plus most college graduates never really got nowhere
These parents are dumb
Only for the rich, and not for the poor ! What a great idea …😢. American's are doomed
College is what keeps me occupied which is why I go. Don't got anything better to do.
THINK ABOUT THIS:
A student takes $150k from his parents for college and instead invests in an S&P index fund and takes a standard job. he can retire at 49 years old with $2,617,410 in his account, if he retires at 55 years old $5,100,592. You must count the money spent on tuition!!!!!!
I HAVE TWO COLLEGE DEGREES AND I CAN TELL YOU IT ALMOST WORTHLESS
You mean employers don't care about your underwater basket weaving degree? Shocking i know
I think has been a very known notion for many years by now…If you don't want to incur student debt or find the education unnecessary for your career, then don't go. Although, I agree with you guys that the education system needs to change and ensure that the education is more relevant…
Depending on the major.
Most students would be smarter to learn a trade as an apprentice so they can get paid while they learn and have no debt. Plumbers, electricians, car mechanics, welders, nurses, oil field workers, and many other skilled workers earn a good living and have not gone to college.
Thinking outside the box, you'd wonder if we are getting closer to free education overall. With AI taking over many aspects of life and the internet being around for so long, it's a matter of time before people just learn by reading articles on the internet and then signing up to take a proctored exam.
Im a dance major historian and my wife has a liberal arts degree. Our budget is 1 million.
If it wasn't for scholarships, i wouldn't ever think of going to college, espically a university.
I sure get tired of all these whining useless youngsters crying about me and the workers paying their school loans. Instead of going to a big dollar school and overpaying for an education go to a less expensive 2 year school, then use the internet, find the curriculum for the degree you want and self teach. It requires self control, discipline, and work. 90% of the shenanigans in college just take you off track anyway. Then pick a college that is a football school and pretend like you go there. Watch their games on Saturday and drink a 6 pack and eat a pizza with your friends. Won’t owe money when you graduate.
If you go to college, find the least expensive reputable school you can go to. That's usually a state university, but sometimes it's a private school with good financial aid. Borrow as little money as possible to remain a full-time student. Work part-time to have spending money. Live frugally. Don't borrow a bunch of money so you can live like a king for 4-6 years, only to have to pay it back later.
The school you attend largely makes no difference in career outcomes. Shop for the best deal, not the school with the best lazy river.
Don't go to college if you're not seriously college material. If you're not easily in the upper half of your high school class, you have no business going to college. Ask teachers for their honest opinion of whether you would do well in college.
If you go, make sure you take advantage of the career center on campus. Get an internship by your junior year. Use your years in college to prepare for a career. That doesn't mean you have to major in an obviously career-oriented major, but make sure you're developing job skills (such as getting that internship).
At the beginning of your freshman year, work out a 4-year plan to get to graduation in 4 years. Don't change majors unless you absolutely need to. Changing majors is one of the most common reasons students spend more than 4 years. And 80% of jobs that require a degree don't care what your major is, so usually changing majors is just a waste of time and money.
And if you're not sure about college, look into apprenticeships. There are so many solid careers where you can get a job at 18 and be an apprentice, earning money while you learn the trade.
To proud too attend a community college. You will pay for that.
Glad I realized this when I graduated High School in 2010. I have no student loans nor ever had any.
I’m senior, I will be graduating in May with a BS in biology. No student loans and I didn’t pay anything out of pocket. I did pretty good in high school and on the ACT. I ended up getting a full ride to a small school. The price of college can be mitigated with where you go + how you do in high school. And I didn’t do stellar in high school, I think I had like a 3.5 GPA. But that still can get you scholarships to some schools. Also, apply for scholarships!!! I’ve gotten like $5k+ just on random scholarships, through my work and for having a disability.
Just my experience though 🙂
Too many years paying for that college education and life is already expensive, inflation etc.
Inflation=devaluation
America Monetizes everything.
Well, using what indeed put out based on their job bulletin service, hs diplomas only earn like 15% less than 4 year degree holders on average. And it typically costs around 20k average for 4 years of college. It would typically take 4 years of study, and another roughly 5 years after getting that job and living as if you earn the same as a hs grad to pay off that amount on average from these figures, and thats without factoring taxes on earnings or conditions of the loan that would make it take longer to pay off the debt from college.
And that leaves the idea that 50% of the time they are making less than 15% more than a hs grad, considering thats the average increase.
I see only two viable options that I would have taken if I were college aged. One, attend a community college and get technical training and experience as soon as possible. If I were more academically focused, I would only consider attending one of the service academies. You receive a top flight education free of debt and have an officer career obligation of roughly 4-5 years. If you decide to leave active duty after the required obligation then you bring real workplace skills that give you the leg up when seeking civilian employment. Otherwise your start in life will be very financially difficult and the desire for marriage, a home of your own and a family all while being debt free will be almost impossible. But, good luck to you young folks..you are going to need it….'nuf said….
At William & Mary, Thomas Jefferson enrolled in the philosophy school and studied mathematics, metaphysics, and philosophy under Professor William Small, who introduced Jefferson to the writings of the British Empiricists, including John Locke, Francis Bacon, and Isaac Newton. He won no drinking contests in college.
It’s not worth it to me
Europeans and even alot of asian countries are laughing at us in terms of healthcare and higher education.
The big problem is when too many companies suddenly require college degrees for roles/positions that honestly do not need it. Worse, they require the degree but still want to lowball the salary as if it's a person without a degree.
Then we have the skyrocketing costs of college, and how we should question those prices if adjuncts are still paid crap. Where is all that money going?
Lastly, the one big problem I personally see is we treat college as "training for a job" as opposed to what it really is: "higher education". Employers, students, and parents expect college grads should be "job ready" when they graduate, but it's not the case. Companies either don't want to train/mentor juniors into complex roles, or they play games with unpaid internships.
I hear over and over about majors that are a "waste of money", but they're a waste if you assume college is about training you for a job. College is to teach you to think critically, solve problems, and to take on an ideology of lifelong learning and growth in your professional and personal life.
We see grads now who can't think critically, or solve problems, and are unwilling to learn new things. Lord knows we see youth who can't even properly operate a PC in an office setting, or type emails and what not in a professional manner, much less collaborate. Too much isolation on phones and too much bad brainwashing into thinking college is supposed to teach them all that.
im studying industrial engineering and everything is going all right.
Higher education has had such an inflation. Everybody has a college degree nowadays. Nobody wants to do actual work, manual labor. These professionals are becoming more sought after again. So why would some young person pay $$$ to get a degree and basically not benefit of it in any way. It does not guarantee a job nor decent pay anymore. So where's the catch? They can probably earn more in their lifetime skipping college and start working immediately after high school. Not paying student loan or missing out working years while studying
College is a scam anyway.
College was the only option for me. I am not mechanically inclined and do not excel at anything physical.
Science or a business degree is more useful than the arts, medical is the way to go,denistry is also useful.Depends what you take.
You need a degree just to work in retail.
I hate to admit that I invested heavily in Education but it has never paid out anywhere near the way I had hoped. And I got one of those "valuable" college degrees like Economics, Math, Law and such. I honestly don't know the answer. When you get out of College and are ashamed to go home because you can't find work and all it is a horrible feeling all the way around. Employers complained that I was White and they did not like Whites and I was accused of being a "blue" and they did not like that either. (I thought "blue" symbolized diligence and conservatism and hard work and all.) I is incredibly difficult to invest MORE in Education when nobody wants what you have or what you are… and I always did my very best. I don't like to complain, but money and standard of living are money and standard of living. America is a great country but people are dragging their feet in my opinion. People ask me "what I want"? and I had a lot of good goals and objectives when I was younger… and I was willing to work towards decent objectives like being a teacher or running for public office or doing sales work and such. But miserable failure time and time again wears on a person.
Unfortunately these will be the same people complaining about student load debt when the bills starts rolling in. 😢
And teaching college kids to tear down statues and no different in Adolf Hitler styling and male
