  1. Here's what happened. When the power went down the pilot lost steerage as it is a fly by wire system. He then called for full astern. That is the plume of black smoke from the funnel. That was a mistake. When the ship engaged full astern it began what we call a prop walk. The stern moves to port and the bow moves to starboard. There was too much way on the ship to stop before the bridge. It was doing 8kts prior to the power outage and 6kts when it hit. If the pilot had not engaged astern it would have continued on its course through the middle of the span.

  2. The lack of maritime knowledge on the thread is comical. The ship was in a channel. Bay pilots on board. No tug required. That will not change. No shipping company is going to travel 160 miles up the Bay being pushed/pulled by tugs. There are two other bay crossings. The other option? Place dolphins around the bridge piers. Far enough and thick enough to stop any vessel from hitting it.

  3. Don't forget >>>
    Joe Biden said >>>
We the TAX PAYERS WILL FULLY FUND THE REBUILDING OF THIS BRIDGE

THE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS THIS administration has given to Ukraine would build 10 NEW BRIDGES

  4. Two mistakes can said to be the cause of the Crash
The Ship lost power to the steering gear as it was approaching the Bridge , but emergency power restored power to the steering The vessel। had a forward headway of about 8 knots , The mistake was trying to slow down the ship by dropping the port anchor & giving an emergency stern thrust on the engines for the reason।of the smoke, causing the ship to Cant/Swing to St bd/Right towards the Bridge pillar & to correct that used the forward electrical driven bow thruster, It should be understood that for a Ship having a forward momentum in this case about 8 knots , stern or bow thrust will have no effect
What should have been done after restoring power to the steering was not to slow down but to navigate it under the Bridge using its 8 knots momentum,

  5. Bidens handlers should tell him the taxpayers are not liable for this disaster ! The ships insurance companies are liable for it ! He is just thinking of his 10% cut !

  6. I certainly hope that the shipping company, which is probably a multi billion dollar business, makes sure that the families are given some form of security after they lost their loved ones to whatever happened on that ship.

  7. Why so fast to remove the Wreckage? An Investigation Will Take Months or even Years to properly conduct?
    What's up with the Emergency?
The New York and New Jersey Ports located just North of here are Open for Business? Norfolk, Virginia, South Carolina and Florida are Opeb for Business!! Baltimore here has an Investigation to conduct, unreal. Some things Are NOT about the Money!!

  8. What a bunch of incompetent fools in our government
They are just now interviewing the crew of the ship?
They should have been immediately taken off the ship, separated and then thoroughly interrogated to get to the bottom of what really happened
They have all been prepped and told what to say and what not to say

  9. Why on earth is there no requirement for ships to be accompanied by tugs until they have safely cleared all bridges and any other objects that may be hazardous? CRAZY!!!!!

  10. Let's also thank Secretary Pete for his dedication to help rebuilding our critical infrastructure. I only hope he keeps his promise to our POC community. Racism has no place when designing and building our roads and bridges.

  11. All ship to shore radios run off of battery power. That is a maritime mandate (globally). I want to hear the audio mayday distress call. That will tell America everything we need to know. Blackbox data will be manipulated to paint the false narrative.

  12. What we know,thats a good one!
What about zelinskys thugs threatening usa and Europe of damaging their infrastructure if he didn't get more money, even posting a pic of a similar bridge online recently!
But same old nothing to see here 😕

  13. The barge was overloaded in my opinion. The engines could not handle the strain and cut out.And the momentum of the barge crashed it into the pylon.Even the anchor could not stop it.
