Robb Fine and Harold Wilson have never met, but they have a lot in common.
Both men own small businesses in Indianapolis. Both work long hours to make their companies successful. And both have lost thousands of dollars due to recent check fraud.
“They’re stealing the checks right out of the mailbox,” Wilson said. ”It’s a big deal. The first four checks they stole are about $12,000.”

I lodge money in the bank
We take our mail to a local post office and take it inside and drop it off because the mailboxes outside are unsafe and there isn’t any cameras outside either. I had a check stolen from my home mail box and after it was changed by the thief it was cashed at the Walmart about a mile away. Walmart said it was on camera but the thief had on a mask and a hoodie. I wondered if it was someone from my neighborhood that saw the red flag up on the mailbox. Walmart said we needed to make a police report, which we did. We were reimbursed by the bank. The original check was made out for $15.to Macys I think but then changed to $300. And cashed at Walmart. I hope this will enlighten anyone reading this so you won’t get burned like we did.
This just happened to me, they pretended to be a company hiring on zip recruiter and I thought it was real. They wanted me to cash a check they emailed me and cash it on mobile bank app luckily my bank didn't accept it !!!
QR Codes why do these mobile apps not use double id QR codes and bank verification technologies? Sure this was a few years ago but these issues are the banks not putting in the work to secure their customers funds and transactions.
Another problem is these thieves get away with it because they have no money you can't sue them they have nothing and they're certainly not going to go to jail so there's no consequences anymore for bad behavior
WHAT???
Are those bank employees mad, or blind, or both?
Any average person, who has ever seen actual checks, should be able to recognize fake ones, let alone a bank employee who was supposed to have been trained specifically to recognize fraudulent checks, or cash…
Come on now: those people should be mopping floors, or something like that, not handling other people's finances…
I haven’t’t seen a paper check in decades. Electronic funds transfers.
So the bank should be responsible
Why not have a PO box at least it is in the post office no one can get in to you mail box only postal employees.
Never do mobile banking.
I have been going through the same ordeal for two months now. This phone deposit has to be stopped or something! People getting hacked on online banking , on checks they write, how are we supposed to pay our hard earned money without getting taken by thieves.
The Banks are still, for the most part, using texting for 2FA. Very few Banks are using Authentication apps or Authentication keys. They don't want to spend the money to pay Authentication app or key fees.
customers should get a lawyer and sue the bank. you will get all your money back, plus extra money for all the trouble they put you through.
It would seem to me that the perpetrator would be the bank account being deposited to. Shouldn't be hard to figure out who the owner of those deposit accounts are that are depositing these fraudulent checks.
I’m glad I have an account that doesn’t allow checks to be written
That shouldn't be allowed
Do not use mobile banking
Get a PO Box or a mailbox that locks
Bank should be liable
“You allowed this to happen” Yes, I allowed someone to steal mail, a federal crime, from a mailbox which is federal property. Sure.
WTH..
Never do mobile banking on phone or contactless cards.
I refuse to use mobile banking. It’s lazy and total ripoff.
make the bank pay alone because it is their reponsibility alone, unionbank in ph was also irresponsible took me 10,000 k pesos
I know someone who is committing this crime and I called the FBI and the IRS and they done nothing
The solution will be the outcome they wanted in the first place. Create the problem, then offer the solution and folks will fall right in line with it. Regardless of what it is, believing this will offer protection against bank theft.
Banks are straight up vile and wicked!
who uses checks in this day and age?
your have to do somthing damn about this
Have a VPN on your phone
Say no to mobile banking.
Google can shut you off for talking but they cant shut off these thives for taking our money
And google should be held responsible bc they created it with alot holes
I believe this is the works of a postal workers.
Stop using checks. Direct deposits only.
That's the bank fault !
I NEVER do anything on my phone that deals with banking nor credit cards. It's always done on my PC that has my security software running.
GET A P O BOX
Just seeing this Vlog and its still happening two years later. The answer to all this is stop sending checks in the mail and use electronic banking. If a person has a medium to large business then B to B payments via electronic banking only. Any other payments should be made electronically via the local PayPal or Venmo or Cash App etc. Even the government paying checks is out of date. All payments SS and others should be electronic. There is no reason to use paper checks sent in the mail these days.
Hey, here's an idea for the thieves: maybe try earning your own money, instead of stealing from others.
Criminals deposit these into their accounts….in banks…and the banks can't track them down? The government allows this to happen. They are both likely profiting.
