In October 2018, Kmart’s parent company, Sears Holdings, filed for bankruptcy. Kmart first filed for bankruptcy in 2002, making this its second time in just 16 years. However, the struggling company used to be the biggest discount retailer of homegoods in the U.S. — even bigger than Target and Walmart.

  1. Americans. Say you need to go to Australia.Kmart American lovers,if you go to Australia You’ll see lots of Kmarts.Just make sure don’t got to the outback there’s none there ofc.Just go to the highly populated part of Australia. You’ll see loads.

  2. From 1966 until the late 1970's, my family lived at K-Mart. We got our school clothes there, and we were in ecstasy when the 'Blue Light Special' was announced over the PA system. The wheels on my Mom's shopping cart would practically smoke as she raced and picked up speed to be the first to get 'Six steak knives for just $3.99'. The toy section was superb. I was able to buy fuel powered control line airplanes, model rockets, whatever. They had a cafeteria which served great grilled cheese sandwiches. What a place.

  3. PAINFUL 😣
    I LOVED K-MART and
    ESPECIALLY, SUPER-KART.
    SOMETIMES, UNIONS
    BITE OFF THEIR NOSE
    TO SPIKE THERE FACES.
    IT DIDN'T HELP.
    IT DIDN'T HELP AT ALL.
    BUT CEOs GET TOO GREEDY.
    ESPECIALLY, FINANCIAL COMPANIES.

  4. When I was a kid my mom won money from a fishbowl drawing. They announced it on the intercom, and we were so excited. This happened twice in a row. I thought it was good luck. Now, I realize it was because we were pretty much the only people in the store.

  5. What is bizarre is I didn’t make a conscious decision to stop shopping at Kmart it just sort of happened. Two Walmarts were in town easier to get in and out of. You’re right in the 1970s and 1980s I was at Kmart all the time. I didn’t think about Kmart until people said they were closing the store somewhere around 2016

  6. I only went to Kmart because it was closer than Walmart. I always knew I could get exactly what I needed at a Walmart, but at a target that would not be the case.

  7. I used to buy groceries at a Super Kmart store circa 2004. It was one of the closest places to me for groceries.

I quickly smartened up because their grocery prices were absurd.

That store was not too bad on the inside, but I couldn’t justify the grocery bill.

  8. Kmart gives me childhood nostalgia. My parents and I were frequent customers. I remember that one of the Kmarts in our area had a Little Cesar's in it.

  9. Sadly a lot of retail stores like Kmart go out of business because they are no longer "trendy". Half our population (I'll let you speculate which half) are always looking to follow the next trend. Shopping is a source of entertainment for many. And they don't want to shop where their mother does. I'm not talking about trendiness of the products, trendiness of the store itself. Walmart has successfully fought this because of their crazy low prices and expanding to sell groceries and just about everything.

  10. 4:11 – This is where Kmart just gave up and didn't know anything better other than knowing how to be a "kmart", at least Walmart knew how to advance and adapt to growing society needs where Kmart just stood in the market like a blind turtle. I think Amazon came along and threw kmart of the cliff.

  11. The final straw was when in the fall, they were selling hunting equipment, all highly profitable, hugh mark up, including firearms. Even if you didn't buy a gun, you wanted all the items that you take hunting. Foolish.

  12. I attribute it to the poor presentation and dirty stores, every time I walked into a K mart it was like alot of the pictures in this video boxes and pallets everywhere it was trashy and it was like that at every Kmart I grew up around. There is really no excuse for presenting your store like that its the only major store Ive ever been to that was cool just having trash everywhere.

  13. Kmart chairman of the board, Antonnini, when he was put into that position, started spending the huge reserve of money on hand.
Bought a private jet, personal body gaurds, paying major bucks for m.stewart, j. Smith.
Big millions for a racing team. Took away employee benefits to pay for the name brands.
Morale went down amongest the store staff.
Very few 40 hour staff, because kmart didn't want to pay benefits for them.
Over worked the store staff, more responsibility, not compensated for.
Tried to buy out long term employees, because of their wages, and not at a ressonable compensarion.
I know, I worked for that company for 28 years.
