The Toyota Camry could be called one of the most rational and reliable vehicles ever made. While Toyota and its passenger cars do have a reputation for being rather bland, it appears that quite a few people do want to own one.
In 2019, the Camry was the best-selling passenger car in the United States. However, sedans like the Camry seem to be steadily vanishing from roads in the U.S. and other markets around the world.

How The ‘Boring’ Toyota Camry Became A Best-Seller In America
source
This Camry does not look boring at allz
In fact looks so good.Put some good wheels on it and will look beautiful.
Toyotas are bulletproof!
I still remember old 2000s 4Runner.
Japanese cars = high-level built quality
Had my 07 Camry till it got 240,000 miles on it, then traded it in. The dealer gave me good money for that. And it ran and looked very good.
That Not true I see a lot Camry more the Any other vehicle
I have a 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited with nearly 280K miles. Still gong strong.
I for one am passionate about reliability and dependability. It's its own type of performance engineering.
Outstanding car
Nothing boring about reliability
Sport Utility Vehicle? Haha! An SUV is this generations Station Wagon and there’s nothing sport or utility about most of the SUV’s or even Pickup Trucks. There’s a high level of hypocrisy and entitlement in the USA that doesn’t exit outside the USA borders. The Camry is a great car and the newest model is a great looking car. I currently drive a Maxima and am considering a new vehicle, looking at a Camry as my new ride.
Legend.
Sorry, but logically, isn't the obvious answer to "why is a boring car so popular with so many people?" clearly "because so many people are boring"…? 🙃
These are not plain Jane vehicles at all. I have a 2022 Camry and it looks beautiful with modern styling and all the technological bells and whistles. Add to that Toyotas reputation for longevity and that’s why the Camry is so popular.
The camry is only 1 thousand more than the Corolla, atleast where I live
In UAE , all taxi are Camry drivers use vehicle use 12 hours everyday 7 days a week . Once I was on a taxi and I saw 600k kilometres and practically no issue .
Japanese need better car designers, maybe hire some german or italian designers, almost all their models look so dated!!
In my country The camry is a luxury car only the rich can afford.
The 4th gen 1997-2001 was the best, the scales of economy favored those years.. Have to agree, probably the most reliable car in the world
All the automobile publications care about is the upper model of everything and if its "sporty", I've loved the Camry since my first one when i was 16. I've had 4 others.
The miserable bidin regime ruined the "affordable" part.
A 90s beige camry is bland and will last forever.
The new Camry don’t have the keyless entry button, No Homelink or start push button on the standard models. They need to step it up in the interior more!
Aside from the Jeep Cherokee XJ, I do not like SUVs. I will continue driving sedans like the Camry or Accord for as long as possible.
My personal openen i have traveled in VW TYGUN and TOYATA INOVA but in tygun in INDIAN road ways i did not feel a single jurk i feel safty feel in tygun but
In in INOVA travel over speed i get affraid while siting near driver seat thanks INDIAN FROM INDIA K.P.GUHAN.ADVOCATE.
I can relate. I just bought my 1st Toyota & it’s a Camry. I’d rather drive a large truck but I’m a road warrior salesman in SoCal & our family car is already a large SUV. I’m loving my Camry & it honestly looks like my old Lexus!!
my 2014 camry just hit 207K miles. I bought it new and I love it.
Its To-Yo(u) -Ta(ugh) ? ❤
Iindifference ???? Yeah im indifferent about a manufacturer that has the most reliable cars in the world – or if you want to keep spending money on reapirs — get a ford or most anything else – except honda
Camry is a luxury in India 😭😭
I bought a 2018 Camry Sports and I am going to pass it on to my great great great grandchildren in 2150.
I bought a 2008 salvaged Camry LE in 2017 with 144,000 miles because I was willing to trust the fact that it’s a reliable car. Now almost 6 years later the car has 223,000 miles and It’s still going strong with minimal maintainance, I need to upgrade a few things on it but overall it gets me where I need to go as long as the oil is clean and the tank has gas. My next car is most likely going to be a 2018 Camry or something like that whenever it’s time to upgrade. I love my Camry it’s been through so much!
"Nobody really wants to own Camry" – is quite controversial statement. On post-soviet territory this car is extremely desired and popular among different generations from millenials to elderly people.
One word. Reliability. We had a 1990 Camry for about 10 years before we traded it in for the new RAV4. In those 10 years the only thing that failed in it's later years was it's battery which was understandable due to it's age but easy to replace. Never had any engine problems with the car at all. Did yearly maintenance, oil change, tire rotation, fluids, etc…. ran without a problem.
I make car keys and Toyota always seem to be the most sold keys out of all the makes. the other day I had a customer who still drives a Previa. Jesus that van is still working? yup 400k mileage and still working totally fine.
My primary school principal drove a 2005 Camry, and we used to clown it as kids , parked next to Mercs and Beemers , I'm 25 now, and that thing is still running stress free. All of a sudden, Toyota is better than the germans to me.
I like the idea of having something durable and strong so to me, owning a Toyota is not boring because the reliability itself is a charm.
If boring means reliable, I’ll take the Camry every day of the week.
I can confirm that the Camry Works My dad owns one, although it ain’t boring, NASCAR has proved that
In 2023 the usually zesty and reliable Honda Accord is not only quite expensive but also lacking in the usual Accord qualities that made it such a hit. In past years, it was always Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. As far as I can see, that leaves only the Camry. I hope that they don't cheap out.
Toyota is hands down the best built cars.
My dad bought our Camry without test driving it, saying I have driven a Camry before no need to test or research it. Keep going Toyota!
My family owned a camry. Only serviced once at 7000kms. Never serviced again and we sold it 10 years at 120,000kms. Best low maintenance car ever!
No point owning a car that always break down.
Toyotas are the king of vehicles reliability, I bought a LE model new in 2008 and til today it still runs and drive like the days I bought it. Currently it has 90k miles, drive better then most new cars hat I have driven. Hats off to Toyota!!!
And they always have a dent in their bumpers.
I went to pakistan, and camry is worth 100k over there
Love my Camry
New camry looks luxury. Great car
My entire family has cameries, corrollas, prius. I love camery, strong engine can be driven to 300,000 miles. The new camery design is my favorite.
Best car ever made lol
Had a lot of cars but always Camry as commuter.
Expensive gas
