“The civilized classes and nations are swept away by the grand rush for contemptible wealth. Never was the world worldlier, never was it emptier of love and goodness.”
– Nietzsche
Even though I agree that the attraction to power is a dominant attribute of MAGA, could that attraction have been nurtured by right wing media and perhaps their educational sources?
I agree they are attracted to power, does that mean a quality of conservatism is an attraction to power or would these voters jump parties if implementing democratic nomrs was where the wind was blowing?
several months ago i tried subscribing .. the net day and for 2 weeks my email inbox had 8-10 'messages' telling me about articles and podcasts as if i need a daily reminder .. no thanks i unsubscribed .. change your policy !!
The key is Anarchism. Glenn Greenwald was a Libertarian Anarchist, Naomi Wolf was a Syndico-Anarchist. The Bernie-Bros are Syndico-Anarchists who will jump to MAGA to destroy the Government.
Glenn Greenwald is a CATO Alum; Libertarian – Although Naomi Wolf is definitely a case that can be made.
I think you all need to go to the streets where the poor is then you might wake up to the fact the poor is pissed!
I am a Democrat… in my heart a Progressive Democrat. But, I am satisfied to elect Centrist Democrats. That is y I love this channel.
That is who we really are.
A third party can lead to a minority rule. Depending on the makeup of the 3 groups, the winning group could be smaller than the other two combined. I'd like to know how that 37% conservative group breaks down into low-information voters and wealthy oligarchs. The problem with a moderate group in leadership is that they tend not to get anything done. I totally agree with Mona about fascism having the wind at its back, but this is reductive when you consider the complexity of behind-the-scenes players rustling up that wind. The new rush to fascism is also, in part, because the population of people who lived through the trauma of WW II are dying off, and the growth of unregulated markets has gobbled up the middle and working class. I'm afraid if Joan Didion were still alive, she would be questioning whether "the center will hold."
Matt Taibbi(sp?) is by no means crazy.
For people like Taibbi and Greenwald, it's either inducement, a shared psychopathy or rational analysis. Let's have a look. One big difference: the left doesn't have self-serving, tax-hating, greed-crazed billionaires underwriting welfare for those scribblers who toil in the hothouses of hypocrisy, extremism and delusion, where the right-wing bullshit is made and mass-delusion propagated.
So spot-on. The GOP was absolutely taken over by people who hated it in 2016. What's fascinating to me is that the flipside on the left continues to forsake the same tactic. The MAGA right realized what the left never could – establishment types can do your bidding if your demographic turns out en masse. Unhappy with Biden over Gaza? Vote for him! In big numbers! Make the Dems see they owe the left for their jobs! Not voting or voting third party robs you of any influence you could possibly have over politicians. Their cause may be vile, but MAGA was so, so smart about this.
mona fix your couch cushion
Thanks you two for the much needed enlightenment in such a brief time 😉💙💙
Conservative and Liberal labels mean nothing.,Progressives don’t consider themself liberal and MAGA have co-opted what conservative with a small “c” has traditionally meant.
Young reactionary Progressives and MAGA both think their views represent the majority—which is why you have crazy TYT telling its viewers how awful Democrats and Biden are all the time and you had Cenk delusionally convinced that if he yelled more loudly he could beat Biden.
Imagine thinking that John Fetterman is some kind of beacon of sanity.
How do post truth and competing realities Americans determine if we are Liberal or Conservative?
We have "whatever Trump says" Vs. "observable reality" 'ideologies'. Which is which?
❤❤❤Happy Transeaster 😊😊😊
Yep! Thise that remain or jump on the crazy train are extremely craven. Not complicated at all.
NPR wannabes.
Shontel Brown beat Nina Turner because of AIPAC money. Straight up.
Crazy is when you believe a president is a Russian spy because some woman-like human with an absurdly long neck said he was.
Insane is when you still believe a president was a Russian spy even after a former FBI director debunks the hoax.
Which one are you?
I love how these grinning never-Trump conservatives never define policies that make up each of these categories. Nor do they accept that they brought us Trump.
I see berserk Democrats all the time
You do realize that the insanity you talk about perfectly describes backing crooked Joe
Open borders destroying America, ridiculous green new deals, 70,000 new irs agents, appeasement foreign policies, dependant on foreign oil when we were energy independent, new taxes galor disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and highest inflation in 40 years
I actually think the Alt-Right outreach to Alt-Left movement was largely a Bannon led Psy-Op feeding off resentment over the Bernie Primary loss. Some of the group have some good ideas, such as Ryan Grim and Crystal Ball. Crystal Ball always has her fingers on the pulse of the rust belt working class. Tulsi Gabbard, Matt Taibbi, Glen Greenwald, and Jimmy Dore have simply gone off the deep end.
Okay okay, I subscribed
8:20 Yeah, JVL, that's my read, too. There are extremists on both sides more wedded to fighting for ideology than taking a common sense approach to reality.
I’ve only ever met one Communist in Bernie circles, and she wasn’t sure if she might actually be an Anarchist in the Barcelona and Zapatista type grass roots locally run type of Communism rather than the authoritarian, centrally run, totalitarian variety. Where local communes run their own affairs free of government control or coercion. That’s just an anecdote. What most Bernie people want is National Healthcare on the European Social Democrat model, considered a moderate position in Europe. So in my mind, Progressives are largely actually moderates.
"In its most extreme form, unitary executive theory can mean that neither Congress nor the federal courts can tell the President what to do or how to do it, particularly regarding national security matters." In a more extreme form trump could apply it to everything.
The reason it doesn't happen is because there is no money in being an Antifa Communist.
The gop wants to OWN liberals.
Owning people is slavery. Horrible.
I have voted red before. NEVER AGAIN.
The Communist Party USA, officially the Communist Party of the United States of America, also known as the American Communist Party, is a communist party in the United States which was established in 1919 after a split in the Socialist Party of America following the Russian Revolution.
My Grandfather died in WWII fighting fascism. I don't understand why being anti-fascist isn't good anymore.
What the heck are you talking about? There are no commies at the end of your mythical horse shoe. You hear this nonsense from conservatives all the time that there is an extreme left antipod to the crazy maga right. There isn’t.
Interesting question. I believe extremism is set to take off as the climate catastrophe sets in.
I think you should consider the dynamic that many of the general population are fed up with all politicians in general. So much thieving and lying from both sides laid the ground work for someone like trump to win because he was perceived as an outsider non politician. There needs to be real accountability for corruption on both sides and I believe at least one more significant party to avoid this crazy pendulum swing we are in. Interested to hear what you think of that. 10:20 10:20 10:20 10:20
Liberals (practical ones) have always learned to make concessions.
🇺🇸 Nikki Haley voters: welcome to Team Democracy. We’re ALL disgusted by Trump and his crazy MAGA cult!
That was a depressing note to end on. At least it explains the unexplainable.
Greenwald doesn't even believe his own bs. He wants to spew hate and lies to hurt as many people as possible.
darnit! i loved nina turner. very interesting though
Pet peeve- stop saying "sort of!!"
"even liberals like Glenn Greenwald" he was never a liberal or progressive. a grifter is a better word for it. if you read the preface to his first book on bush, he outlines his very conservative views. his border fanaticism has always rivaled his buddy tucker carlson. he's been a log cabin republican for a very long time and spent recent years rehabilitating the careers of alex jones. if he's anything like he was years ago, he's reading every comment posted here and getting salty.
The reason the GOP was taken over by people that hate it is because it was such a colossal policy failure for the preceding 30 years, especially the W Bush administration but really the whole time. Every time the GOP got a policy 'win' that they wanted, it turned out to be terrible for the country and the world. They were on the wrong side of basically every issue, and when they finally got a strong enough majority to do everything they always wanted with virtually no brakes applied thanks to Osama Bin Laden, they ran the country and indeed much of the planet straight into the dirt. They destroyed the Middle East and took down American foreign policy credibility with it. They destroyed the financial system with their mass deregulation and studious ignorance of the boiling housing mortgage and insurance bubble. Hell they even wrecked public education with No Child Left Behind, and proved to be total failures at disaster mitigation and response, particularly with Katrina. Tax cuts on the mega rich during the Bush admin hamstrung attempts to balance the budget after Clinton had managed it just a few years before. Allowing Clinton's automatic weapons ban to expire led to an increase in both the frequency and severity of mass shooting events. Stubborn refusal to accept even the most basic and uncontroversial aspects of climate science have left America a decade or more behind even China on what could and should be a green technology industrial revolution, and their trade and corporate policy have done nothing but contribute to the hollowing out of middle America whose anger they are now cynically exploiting.
Every policy the GOP wanted made America worse, and they've stood in the way of almost everything that would make it better, and finally even the GOP base realized their leadership were a pile of corrupt, incompetent buffoons who didn't actually know how to do anything but make their donors richer at the expense of everyone else. That's why they were able to take it over so easily, and hand the keys to even worse grifters like the Tea Party astroturfers, the 'freedom caucus', and finally Trump and MAGA. The GOP base is simply temperamentally incapable of moving to the Democratic party (that's why they're the GOP base after all) but they knew they were fed up with their old leaders and willing to try almost anything else. Trump offered them that, and they took it.
I love the Bulwark, but you shouldn't call us Progressives commies… just saying. I listen to all views left to right. Keeping an open mind and be open to intelligent debate is how we move forward. Don't you think so? I believe we need to agree to disagree. In our current situation, Biden vs trump, we all should come together and save democracy 💙💙💙💙💙
Thank you both very much
💙💙👍👍💙💙
I disagree. The Far Left is more likely to vote for Trump. The Bernie Bro's brought us Trump. Liberal moderate Democrats are too educated to vote for the Republican Party we have now.
