As U.S. and Canadian crews continued to search Wednesday for a missing submersible that may have only a day’s supply of oxygen left, more information was emerging about experts’ attempts to warn the company that owns the underwater vessel about the perils of its operations.

The 22-foot submersible was carrying five people in a dive to the wreckage site of the Titanic when it lost contact with a support ship Sunday. Among those aboard are a British adventurer, two members of a Pakistani business family, a Titanic expert and the CEO of OceanGate, the privately owned, Washington-based company that operates the vessel.

  1. I can't believe those fuckers in the oceangate did this. Bluetooth Playstation controller?
It's the most stupid thing someone can do in the world of electronics.

  2. Let's face it, corners were cut. This accident should really not have happened. Rusty pipes? Not sealing the door with the 18th bolt? Using a Xbox controller? And these are the things we know about. Come on, that's a disaster waiting to happen.

  3. i wonder if the same people attacking these people would attack victims of a plane crash. when it comes down to it death is death. be it in a sub or say a plane. you can take all the measures you want to minimize something but the simple truth is that isnt a sure bet that something wrong wont happen

  4. Everyone talks like this is routine and normal. This has NEVER been done before. Because it shouldn’t have been done before. Stupidity, is a great word. The “fail safes” were just fail slowers if you will. Just decompression issues alone weren’t assessed. Really sad, but hopefully good comes of this event. And I’d like to think they passed happy down with the Titanic

  5. This situation was bonkers! That company had a very young crew, were they trained for this kind of emergency? Why did they wait 13 hours after loosing track of the sub to call the Coast Guard? And why the Coast Guard? They don't have the equipment to help AT ALL. Did anyone at that company know that? The ROV that could save them took four days to get there. That French crew found the pieces as soon as they hit bottom.

  6. So he accepted the job without even looking at the sub…
What? Of course this reporter is going to watch what he says about the company he doesn't want to get sued. And now we find out glue was also part of the state-of-the-art technology.
    😯🙄

  7. All the money in world couldn't save rush good for him 😮 I fell bad for the 19 year old though he didnt want to go, keep dying rich people and leave your fortune to your dog great job 🎉

  8. The thing that only 17 bolts instead of the 18 designed by some so called engineers if it could I wonder cause a failure also.Obviously they fired the one who voiced concerns. The reason you would want to get to the surface is if the frame started to buckle in if it even did that at all I heard in another interview that the weights did not drop off at first or very quickly.

  9. Sadly, PH had too much trust in that Titan garbage that Rush built. I would have thought that being such a seasoned sub explorer, PH would have seen some very big red flags about the sub Titan. He also became a US Citizen a few years ago, had kids and was happy in CT. Why did he even go on that fiber can crap? Why couldn't he go down to see the Titanic (again after 33 trips) with Vescovo's Limiting Factor. That sub is very safe and ceritified like hec. RIP to all five.

  10. Boy he sure drank the Kool-aid. Maybe he should have looked at the posturing façade of "safety" as an ominous sign of incompetence. Now I understand why Disney is selling CBS.

  11. no way ide have stepped one foot on that sub! ide have asked him strait up, is this your master peace? is this the finest sub you could possible build? was this thing built with the strongest safest most proven materials available? no? why not? and are you crazy or just plain stupid?

  12. The Pokeer Waiver-going all in! Still as many check lists as they had, that port window was rated for 1,300 M that should hav e been itès limit! he should also have had the hull rated. He is so lucky the dive got scrubbed. There are so many wrecks less than 1,300 M-no sense going to the Titanic.

  13. There are so many stories out there of people who are adventure seekers like David mentioned in this piece. I mean, why would you put your life – our most precious gift – for any of this? It makes no sense to me, I see no adventure if it involves risking my life, hell no…
