RECAP: How did The Dali Ship crash into Francis Scott Key Bridge?

30

A cargo ship lost power and rammed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, destroying the span in a matter of seconds and plunging it into the river in a terrifying collapse that could disrupt a vital shipping port for months. Six people were missing and presumed dead, and the search for them was suspended until Wednesday morning. The ship’s crew issued a mayday call moments before the crash took down the Francis Scott Key Bridge, enabling authorities to limit vehicle traffic on the span, Maryland’s governor said.

Here’s what to know about the cargo ship Dali that crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse and leaving six bridge construction workers presumed dead. If stood upright, the Dali would reach almost to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris or about two-thirds of the way up the Empire State Building in New York. It can carry the equivalent of almost 10,000 standard-sized metal shipping containers, and at the time of the accident was carrying nearly 4,700 containers. But while those figures are impressive, the Dali pales in comparison to the world’s largest container ships, which can carry more than 24,000 containers. There are environmental and economic advantages to operating giant container ships, but their sheer size and weight make them difficult to maneuver and stop — especially when something goes wrong.

  1. A fewdays after the collapse I came across a video talking about possible hackers knocking down the power on the ship, and that it couldn't happen except if someone was on the ship, well with all the technology now a days, and all terrorists and different countries which dislike USA, you have to see that a lot of countainer are on this ship, a complete kind of control room could be set up in one of them giving access to some hackers, and to go even a step further, just waiting for the next phase to remotely push a button initiate a huge atomic blast, none of those container I assume were XRAY to know their contain???? from a scifi perspective! Danger come on all kind of form. Remember 9/11, no one would ever expected something like that to happen, but I might be paranoying???

  2. This bridge has been very special to me. I live right next to it. I remember before my dad died. We went on the bridge and we saw the nice view. They didn’t have to do this to my last memory of my dad.

  3. I heard there were many containers on board that required refrigeration and the massive electrical load is what caused the power outage. I wonder how that refrigerated cargo is doing now.

  4. One more reason that Biden would wanna pay for the bridge with our tax dollars then maybe he can get his admires to help him name of the bridge did Joe Biden memorial bridge or some stupid crap like that

  5. In addition: these ships are so large and move so slow, they do not rely on the rudder entirely. They have side thrusters. So a loss of power is a death sentence.

  6. It will be the same investigation as Lahaina had….no one from the ship speaking…no more mention of the guy who refused medical care?… everything being swept away?….yet again too many questions with very little answers.

  7. How did it happen INDEED? I am NOT a conspiracy theorist & Idek what the conspiracy could be, what is there TO gain by purposely collapsing this bridge??? BUT it did seem to collapse AWFUL EASILY! You'd THINK that a bridge that spans an international shipping lane would be built to withstand hits from ships! It's not like it was built BEFORE it ever was a shipping lane, it's one of humankind's OLDEST form of transport & importation & that bridge fell as if it was built with Legos!!! Something smells & feels very wrong here! Also… thank the God's that this didn't happen during rush hour!!!
