The Bounty Hunters Catching Pythons In Florida (HBO)

39

The Everglades in Florida are plagued with dozens of invasive species, top among them is the Burmese Python. A pet sold in stores throughout the US, when it gets too big or too old for its owner it typically gets released into the wild. When this happens in Florida, where the Everglades tall grasses are identical to Southeast Asia, the animal thrives, breeding in huge numbers and eating whatever it wants thanks to a complete absence of natural predators. On the heels of a viral video showing a burmese python wrestling and killing an alligator, the director of the South Florida Water Management District launched a program to hunt snakes throughout his district.

  1. Just saying I’m putting my opinion out there! I don’t think it is right that they are killing the Burmese pythons for money!! As a Burmese python owner a male and a female Burmese pythons are not as aggressive or dangerous as they say they are!! How bout the get the gators and other dangerous animals!!!

  2. Humans have got a LOT to answer for. These snakes are damaging ecosystems and threatening native species, I have no problem with them being hunted and killed, every snake killed is a 1up for native wildlife, but ultimately it's our fault. We must take responsibility for the damage we have done to our planet.

The penalties for illegally importing animals should be as high as the consequences are. We could lose entire species to this. If any animal or plant has the potential to become invasive, it should be banned, meaning it's illegal to grow them, keep them as pets, and the penalties for releasing them into the wild should certainly be prison time.

Here in the UK we lost our beautiful native red squirrel to invasive grey squirrels. Only small pockets of red squirrels still exist here. I haven't seen a red squirrel since I was a child.

  3. Snakes are the best rat hunters in the world. These pythons have exterminated thousands of those vile rodents in Florida yet nobody notices this very positive aspect of their existence. This is a shame.

  4. I think its funny and specist that people think this is 100% okay but doing this with invasive cats in Australia or feral dogs in Asia doing the same thing makes people monsters. I support all 100% the real fault is of the owners releasing there pets. And its unrealistic to expect someone to be able to take care of all the cats or dogs plus they are feral then and not even friendly they will act like wild animals and may come with disease. Both need to be eliminated once and establish population has built in the wild to protect native wild life and the ecosystem. Even your self look at the amount of dog born rabies in countries like India
