The Business Of Amazon Shipping Boxes

Cardboard boxes are a really big deal in the U.S. Amazon alone shipped over 5 billion packages through Prime in 2017. But as Amazon moves to plastic mailers and paper mailers the corrugated box market is bracing for the fallout.

There are other players in the space but today the four big cardboard box manufacturers that dominate the market are International Paper, WestRock, Packaging Corporation of America and Georgia-Pacific.

  1. All the workers do not look happy…
This is a lie: not long ago, I ordered from amazon 4 items that may not need packing. They would have fitted in one box. I got four big boxes with lots of bubble wrap, one per item…
I do not like online shopping, but we are forced to do so. Stores have less items than they used to. If you ask for something or for a different size, the salespeople are trained to answer: go online, there are more options online…

  2. I order bottled water from Amazon and insist they double box it and pad it with bubble wrap. I'm doing my part to destroy this planet before I go. 😁

  3. If they really cared about the environment they use boxes. That bs about the plastic being as recyclable as paper is nonsense. I work in a paper mill with an on-site recycling plant. All the plastic is in such bad shape it all gets haunt to a landfill. All we recycle is a small amount of drink bottles. Cardboard is way easier to recycle.

  4. I've been wondering for years why they don't do some type of return program. Like for every reusable box it would credit your Amazon account like 20 cents

  5. Amazon is a ruse! They are cheap infiltrators! Take a deep look on how the make their money.
Most of it is by fraud. They cheat the customer by misrepresenting their products by not allowing true reviews. They only allow positive ones . If you tell the truth and make a negative review it will be censored , you will be censored if you continue , until the block you form making any reviews! …….but they will still take your money!
When you order more than one item, they package each in separate packages to soak you for more money. Each and every purchase has been a disappointment ! They treat their workers as the treat their customers and sellers…..like expendable product!
People , wake up ! WE do not need companies like these!
They are not looking out for our best interests!

  6. 75% of all recycled material (plastic and paper) are not reused by manufacturers due to the costs and labour involved in reducing the waste products generated. So, still seeing a lot of recycled material going straight to the garbage dumps or city incinerators, in fact 25% of all recycled products.

  7. i think of frustration free packaging as not using the clamshells made of the same kind of plastic that soda bottles are made from requiring a knife to open

or using packaging with zipper seams or punch out seams that can be opened rather easy.

i am talking about the boxes that small electronics come in.

and for small products like packs of stickers instead of plastic bags they should use small media envelopes witch are much easier to recycle and can be rolled or folded to fit in mail boxes.

such as the envelope that is being scanned at 9:14

the plastic mailers are worse because the plastic is not as easy to recycle and clog up the insides of animals that eat them and go into the worlds garbage patches in the oceans.

  8. I’m a Ups Driver and from experience these boxes are not the best, they get damage so easy and the tape Amazon uses is the worst! They only put one strip of tape for any box or weight and half of the time I’m re taping it

  9. well i like these amazon people to a tee . i think there great if you ask me there doing fine they dont like the people who make the money . then why dont you make something like what they did its not hard
