‘The people want change’: Trump boasts record $US50 million fundraiser

Former US president Donald Trump’s Florida event raised a record-breaking $US50 million in a fierce fundraising duel with Joe Biden ahead of a costly November 5 election.

Major donors gathered at the Palm Beach, Florida home of billionaire investor John Paulson for a fundraiser billed as the “Inaugural Leadership Dinner”.

Paulson described the event as the most successful political fundraiser ever.

“This sold-out event has raised the most in a single political fundraiser in history,” he said.

“This overwhelming support demonstrates the enthusiasm for President Trump and his policies.”

The Washington Post reported a seat at Trump’s elite table cost a whopping $US814,600.

Ahead of the event, the 2024 GOP candidate vowed rapid change upon returning to the presidency and that America is currently the “laughing stock of the world”.

Trump’s Florida event quickly eclipsed Biden’s record $US25 million New York fundraiser over a week ago, featuring Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

    Take a look at some authoritarian and some bifurcated societies. In authoritarian countries the well-to-do sometimes take involuntary flying lessons or are mysteriously sickened by a cup of tea. Alternatively, they may disappear suddenly only to emerge much humbled, see Ma, Jack. Your wealth is not safe in such a country.

    In countries with extreme wealth gaps, you end up surrounded by crime and spending the money on private security and bullet proof cars to insulate yourselves from the misery miserliness multiplies.

    One way or another, you end up paying. Either in perpetual fear of a bigger, badder, more voracious dog or in outlays for fortresses and security.

    Don't give in to fear. What is 'fair' anyways? Never so much as to hurt, unless your pride is so great that giving even a penny is an insult.
