The U.S. Media Has A Palestine Problem

38

Israeli occupation of Palestine tends to be a touchy subject for news media, so much so that they break journalistic standards and writing etiquette just to avoid implicating one party over another — which still seems to end up working out in Israel’s favor and never Palestine’s. That’s led to a media environment that can’t clearly call out the ethnic cleansing and apartheid inflicted upon Palestinians, doesn’t point to context when talking about the results of decades-long oppression and displacement, and can’t help but equivocate about two disproportionately affected populations. But maybe that’s starting to change.

Sana Saeed looks at what U.S. media coverage has gotten wrong about recent events in Gaza, Sheikh Jarrah and occupied Palestine, and offers her own media critique.

  1. Im always dumbstruck by people who claim neutrality on this 🙄 open your eyes and see, take a book and read look at what the majority of the schoolars are saying.

  2. it is a fact it happened with me in person is that when speaking of position of neutrality with as much objectivity as possible during a sitution that has a sort of polarization, it wiill result in to be criticized and underfire by both sides. That can be the cost of neutrality and benefit of its rationale of objectivity. To explain it a comprehensive picture is necessary.

The Israeli logic in general (regardless of the pragmatism or aspiration of politicians) .. is in "identifying seeds of problem .. and prevent them from developing into an out of control scale" .. the root of this attitude, that has cultural component, is traced back to the 20th century or before and the anti-semisim trends in Europe that resulted of million of murderring of innocent jews during WWII .. which were bigetory – vicious crime based on identity .. Any trial to deny the holocaust is a bigetory-stupid as claiming that there is "nothing going on right now in Gaza and no one has ever been killed or suffered there " ..

Within this sense of "preventing seeds of problem from developing in out of control scale" comes the core cultural posture .. if any culture (including what most radical islamists make) look into category of individuals negatively, brand them, positioning them as second class or denying their rights or freedom or justify targeting or exploiting them .. then that by itself make "seeds of greator problems that can develop into an out of control siutation" no matter how such "seeds" look "weak" or "irrelevant" at any point of time.

It is true that perhaps many civilians of the conflict are "not radical religious" .. however, these perspective can evolve to become problematic .. The US had similar posture against the communism in that the communism is an idiology that was expanding was trying to deny the civil right or choices of others .. the bigetory Nasizm did have same bigetory stance and resulted in world war with 50 millions of victims (that is like 25,000 times greater from all the people who are killed the current cycle of violence in Gaza .. to actualize this number .. if every day there are as many innocent victims killed as since the start of the recent cycle of violence .. it iwll take 68 years to reach the number of victims of WWII which was started-feuled based on bigetory "idiology" of the Nazim ). Whereas the liberal democracy do not have opinionated perspective toward indivdiuals .. you can see many countries world-wide have adopted liberal stance and remain culturally distinguishable (e.g Japanese culture do differ alot that Eurpean that differ from American) .. still liberal democracies do Not make any "global threat" could impose for idiological reasons any threat to liberty of individuals …

With that been kept in mind (which can differentiate the language that is used in media (like dying or killing) .. when any militia reflect "idiological" justification of its actions .. it become a "seed of problem" as what it aims for in the long run is NOT identifable as any non-idiological political or national movement .. Rather, an idioloigicial movement can simply change its objectives along the way based on the capacity it has at the moment .. which is an objectively risky stance..

Thus, I think the answer for all of this complex situation goes beyond "media" or "language" .. The conflict can start to resolve by explicit agreement on pricinciples like the mutual unconditional rights of life, safety and well-being of indivdiuals as human beings of both sides. The Palestinians to recognize the rights of Israelis in living in peace, safety and security and liberty and vice versa.

This historical perspective on recognizing rights of land is also problematic because you it fails to objective specify what timeframe it reference as begining .. is it 50 years back or 500 years back or 5000 years back

in 2023, almost all the individuals who had early memory since 1948 are now aged like 75 or 80 years old by now (which is close to the long end of the average life span of individuals world wide) .. the coming generations (Israelis and Palestininans) since then are indivduals who just open their eyes in this life and found themseleves in specific location and region that they had totally nothing to do with and they do have the human rights over their life and the land they found themseleves on .. there is a necessity for both to learn to live together and develop humanitarian cultural norms that say no individual has ever chosen most of their life circumstances and conditions (neither Israelis nor the Palestinian nor anyone else).

The right perspective is "human-rights based peace" .. trying to articulate the politiical posture that minimize the suffer of current populations of a specific region, protect their rights and well-being so them the future generation can live in peace and thirve as any other nation in the world.

  4. It all planned by Israelis to steal Pleastine land Israelis been bombings Pleastine Gazza for years stealing their land bit by bit. Israelis cut off water, electricity cutting off incubators for babys. Israelis been plotting and planning this war Pleastine just like American did 911 blaming the Muslims for it.

  5. You deserve to be subscribed. Thank you so much for giving voice to Pakistan. Also it's a bit suspicious that Israel has so much technology but somehow, just somehow… Hamas was able to slip past their borders, which I'm assuming would be under heavy surveillance, given Israel's illegal occupation. You'd think they'd patrol the place at the least? It feels like a skeevy set up for ethnic cleansing in the guise of a justified "war"😅. I know there are jews out there who are good people. But these people are native to this land. Israel is basically doing to Palestine, what the Nazis did to jews in world war two. Who needs gas chambers, when you have white phosphorus that could wipe out an entire overpopulated city? It's not difficult to understand, so much that its disturbing.
Again, thank you so much❤. I would shake hands with you if i could.

  6. Innocent babies and children of Palestinians are the horrific victims of this persistently accelerated genocide. America's original population was also subjected to centuries of murderous killing and land-grabbing. Can anyone call that civilization?

  7. Jews should buy their own land instead of killing and grabbing the land of Palestinians. What they are doing is the biggest crime against humanity. Stop acting like demons, and show some resemblance to humanity! Join Humanity, for God Sake!
