The Ultra Orthodox vs. The IDF: Israel’s Other Religious War

Since Israel’s inception, the Haredi — ultra-Orthodox adherents of Judaism —have been exempt from the country’s military conscription laws. But their growing population, coupled with their high unemployment rate and dependence on state benefits, sparked outrage within the country’s secular majority. After years of demanding that the Haredi share the responsibility of serving in the armed forces, the Israeli government passed an unprecedented law in March 2014 that requires Haredi men to serve in the military.

The decision resulted in major opposition from the Ultra Orthodox community, from violent protests to religious leaders demanding that no one should comply. VICE News travels to Israel to speak with hardline members and leaders of the Ultra Orthodox community as well as soldiers in the Netzah Yehuda, the IDF’s Ultra Orthodox Battalion, to get their take on the government’s decision.

He is very generous, I will quote the very first verses of the Quran that God revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)

    Our duty, in return, is to worship God alone without associating anyone in worship with Him. We believe in the Prophets like Abraham, Moses, Noah, Jesus (peace be upon them all), we believe they were the best of men who were sent to guide their people and the last one of them is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We don't worship them, we only worship our Creator. We believe in the Angels as a creation of God who delivered revelation from God to the Prophets and they have other duties as well. We believe in the Day of Resurrection where we will have to account for our deeds and I will quote some verses from the Quran regarding the Day of Resurrection

    "O humanity! Fear your Lord, for the ˹violent˺ quaking at the Hour is surely a dreadful thing.

    The Day you see it, every nursing mother will abandon what she is nursing, and every pregnant woman will deliver her burden ˹prematurely˺. And you will see people ˹as if they were˺ drunk, though they will not be drunk; but the torment of Allah is ˹terribly˺ severe – Surah Hajj "

    We also believe in Hell and Paradise.
