US or China: Who Will Win The AI and Green Tech Race?

33

China aims to be global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy. It has doubled down on investments and infrastructure support for these sectors – to rival the US.

But China’s growing dominance has also got some countries worried. The US-China trade war intensified last August, when President Joe Biden banned the export of advanced chips to China. The EU also has plans to ban Chinese solar panels.

China also faces barriers in AI advancement. From data security concerns to the US’ export controls on semiconductor technologies – can China emerge as the new global superpower?

  1. Nutty question. What do U mean. China already overtaken the US. The law of the universe says so. No need to ask this absurd question. Lost in space, lost in sea, in population, lost in its economy, lost in chips by being fried up.even nanny will lose her knickers too for polluting the atmosphere too much. Lost is the key word. Just accept that fast & live with it.

  2. Us: we ban u making chips with our technology.

China: Sure, u can keep yrs safely under the pillow. Our EVs will only use made-in-China chips from now on.

US: that is keeping hurting us. Unfair competition!

China: Gangsterism in full swing. The Dollar therefore must die.

  3. The reason CNA is asking is the answer la. China has overtaken the US GDP in 2014 in terms of PPP…and the U$ desperateness in trying to break the competitor' s leg in the name of competition is so ludicrous if it aint so shameful for a so called once great nation – never mind how it was conceived.

  4. Green Tech race… maybe. Will they actually use it? Not likely, considering their fossil fuel usage has been as high as its ever been and constantly increasing.
As for AI race…, not likely. Unfortunately, the US still has a leg up on China when it comes to software development and innovation, considering everything released in China is basically a copy of existing use software.
If they can some how make people learn how to innovate (which requires people to have the ability to defy normal existing conventions, which.. well, lets just say its not in China's current social policy), then they could eventually surpass the US in this field (or most of the world really, they've got over 1 billion people).

  5. Clearly the Electic/Hydrogen technology is not quite there yet for every need. But I can see a realistic chance to apply these technologies to the big US cities in the initial stages. Clearly EV vehicles are not practical for folks who live way out in the countryside. It will take a long time to roll out the infatructure and convert Fuel stations too EV charging ports. But in a city environment smaller EV vehicles are probably something that can be done right now. They will work very well to reduce emmissions in urban environments and their small size will reduce congestion. For folks who rely on public transport in the cities Hydrogen powered Bus services are a pragmatic and fast way to begin the conversion process. Taking a short trip accross the city in an EV is completley doable right now. Ok EV's are not that fast when used at their most efficient settings but when was the last time you raced through Manhattan city at over 60 MPH? Its time to do what can be done in a practical way right now and conserve hydrocarbon fuels for the more remote setlements where the use of Electic vehicles is not yet fully practical.

  6. Any innovative product development in America, China or anywhere , in order to mass produce them to make money. There is one and only place you get tons of skilled workers, it's CHINA 🇨🇳

  7. I think USA's H1B Visa gives USA an AI edge due to the global (especially Chinese and Indian) talent; however China has better resources for green tech, there is no dispute in that

  8. Renewable energy is over-rated, global interest rates aren't any good causing a double whammy both at home and away. Plus lack of political accountability means they aren't binding…

  9. The world always appreciate innovative people who brought us equipments to improve livelihood at affordable cost through deligent use of resources.
However nowadays media reverse these narratives to consider cheap solar panel, cheap new energy vehicle, and smart phone from China are a threat to the world. I just can say with lots of monkey chasing peanuts nowadays we will see more of such nonsense.

  10. Who Will Win The AI and Green Tech Race? This is the most ridiculous question ever !
When the Chinese AI experts are required to get their inspiration from the Xi Jinping little red books, the world already knows the answer!

  11. Many people fail to see that US and China AI are going two different paths. China AI is more in automation and industrial work and US own in mostly generative AI like Sora and GPT
