What Broke The U.S. Immigration System?

34

2023 saw record-breaking numbers of migrant crossings at the southwestern border, with Border Patrol reporting nearly 250,000 encounters in December alone. But today, less than 1% of those looking to reside permanently in the U.S. can do so legally, according to CATO. The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse estimates that the immigration court currently has a backlog of over 3 million cases. So how did the immigration system in the U.S. get so broken? And can it ever be fixed?

In the U.S., 62.6% of permanent resident, or “green,” cards go toward family-sponsored immigrants, compared with just 21.1% for employment-based sponsorships, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Cato Institute estimates that just 1 in 1,500 new hires in the U.S. receives a green card through employment sponsorship programs.

The U.S. legal immigration system is in dire need of reform to make it work for the U.S. economy, experts say.

“I think the limitations for the numbers of annual immigrants was last updated in 1990 when our population was smaller and when the kinds of work that we did in this country was different,” Brown said.

Simon Hankinson, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, said, “What I would like to see are reforms to make the majority of people who come here legally as immigrants to come because our economy needs them.”

  1. ILLEGAL ALIENS NOT MIGRANTS. I recently was called a migrant because i moved from nc to fl. DO NOT try to homogenize that term. They are illegal aliens and you will never change that.

  2. The women streaming over with 4 and 5 kids aren't going to work. Who is kidding who? They just want welfare, medicaid, etc…This is getting realllllly old. We cannot assimilate every poor pitiful country's population.

  3. Because only in it's current form can a price be put on it and those who have the means would actually be willing to pay. It's about making it a profitable business. And, when there's a price tag on it, people would try to get it illegally, whether they actually need it or not.

  4. beginning of any conflict, i go down within first 2 minutes, i don't mind……. i am still here………… that is what hurts……………. well, that's my ISSUE

  5. That's Baloney and still costing Texas & the Nation.

States can assist in enforcement of immigration laws, deporting illigal entry.

It is unlawfully for states or any court to extend services to people without green cards and a conspiracy to aid unlawful entry into the United States of America.

    Sanctuary cities

Conspiracy to Encourage and Induce an Alien to Unlawfully Enter the United States carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Bringing an Illegal Alien to the United States for Profit carries at least a three-year mandatory minimum prison sentence and a fine of up to $250,000.1 day ago

Circumventing deportation in any form, is a conspiracy to induce or encourage a alien to unlawfully enter into the United States.
The Court ruled that while government can forbid non-citizens from entering and can deport legal and illegal aliens, it was unconstitutional for the government to impose punishment without “a judicial trial to establish the guilt of the accused”[10] under the Fifth Amendment's guarantee of procedural due process prior …

How long has that been going on and other games of the illigal transport of aliens across the USA ?
The people of the Bar should answer for their crime & corrupt representation.

The president of the Bar and other bar members still going to Brazil giving speeches.

  6. Legal or illegal, I don't care. There's already a major shortage of housing. We don't need more millions of people coming into the U.S. anymore. We also don't want the U.S. government to keep spending taxpayer's money on these immigrants. At this point, I'm against immigration altogether.💯

  7. American with a German wife. Got married April 2016 and she and our daughter joined me in the states in February 2017. Visa process was a pain and cost a lot of money (especially for a military E5 at the time) but we did it and did it right because it was worth it to us. Can't believe this is even an argument in our country when it's not even considered in other places

  8. Nearly 7.5 million illegal immigrants crossed under Joe Biden (an amount great than the population of 30+ states).

The problem is the administration that reversed remain in Mexico policies and allows anyone in. It’s not some convoluted answer that needs a 12 minute video

  9. I don't think US citizens are analyzing the cause of the immigration correctly. They want it to stop it but until they stop their own government first situation would not change. US is a state built on imperialism and along with its allies they have broken many countries, placed sanctions and manipulate nations to the extent that people are willing to take the step to move in a society where they can get same benefits, jobs, education, justice and food. They have to let other countries develop so citizens can fulfill their basic necessities or this will keep increasing. US state knows that which politicians, generals, bureaucrats have investments in US and in Europe and are from which nationality who are involved in money laundering whom they use as puppets for their gains. It's all connected. From Pakistan they harbor Shariff family, zardari family, army generals and there isn't a single law that can touch them who have taken the resources from the country and invested in US and Europe.

  10. Nobody is illegal on stolen land.

Have everybody forgotten that the U.S. of Northamerica is a nation born from invasion, murder and genocide???🇺🇲💀

Nobody is illegal on stolen land.
