Submarines are the cornerstone of the U.S. Navy’s strategic plan to patrol the world’s oceans, but cost overruns and supplier problems could slow down the pace of submarine production.

CORRECTION: At 5:47, this video misstated the year in which the first Ohio-class submarine was delivered. The correct year is 1981.

  1. 22 year army vet, and I couldn't agree more. The United States is, first and foremost, a maritime nation. Our wholistic strategy – defense, economic, technologic – has mostly centered around our dominance of the world's oceans. There is no America, there is no global stability, without an American Navy ruling the waves (sorry, Brittania, but you know what's up).

  2. For we must put stop to capitalism and war industries or there might be third word war for it and stop development of machines that can cause unemployment and repeat the evolution as said by Engels, how physical productive labour transformed ape anatomy to human

  3. US Navy must consider to invest in:-
    (1) Diesel electric Attack Submarines (SSKs)
    (2) Diesel electric Aircraft Carriers (CVV)
    (3) Minesweepers
    (4) Nuclear Cruisers with Electromagnetic Rail Guns & DEWs.

Its easier to mass manufacture SSKs & CVVs during a conflict in comparison to Nuclear Ships.

Nuclear Cruisers/Destroyers, CVNs, SSBNs & SSNs will allow US-Navy to have almost unlimited range with the only Limitation being food supplies for crew.

  4. Why tell us. If the Navy says something like that, it’s something very much more powerful. China isn’t slowing down. Less Carriers, and Cruisers, more Subs and Destroyer type ships and much better armament. You can float many destroyers a year if had a few more yards. But what do I know. I know that in WW2 our main ships, Battleships we’re decimated. We realized the Carrier was the main ship then. More countries building faster and longer range missiles not good when we spending $$$$ on carriers. Navy still have weapons of the 80’s and there 2nd best fighter at # 1 taking the place of 3 planes. Aircraft suicide. It’s no secret. It’s insanity. Not now but if we get our butts handed to us like Pearl Harbor, minds will change. The same path as before. When are think tanks gonna be not so narcissistic, and not need Harvard Grads and elected officials that know nothing about Naval Warfare Technology making decisions about US Navy future. Ask the Master Chiefs, and listen.

  5. Well Australia needs 8-12 nuclear subs so they should hurry up (no doubt Australia won't be able to build them quickly as needed) and will need to buy off USA

  6. I think the Ukraine war has shown that big bad surface ships might just be missile fodder. Submarines and missiles, I think, are our future in sea warfare. Land warfare will see tanks as irrelevant because of shoulder-launched missiles and drone use. Things are changing. I think the Taiwan situation is also looking better: sink the Chinese ships with legions of anti-ship missiles. Same with Sino jets. Patriot anti-missile batteries will be needed. All this means that Taiwan can perhaps be defended and saved. 🇺🇸💛🇹🇼

  7. USA Nuclear Submarines 72 and Russia and China together 41!!!And China has more ships in the navy but only 20% of the US Navy firepower THAT IS THE TRUTH…not always CHINA::CHINA:::CHINA so big.A Russian General say one US Aircraft fleet destroy most of the China Navy.
