The IRS estimates the average taxpayer spends 12 hours working on their taxes and pays an average of $230 to get their paperwork filed.
“Your tax return is in no way that simple,” Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Chief Tax Information Officer Mark Steber said. “I don’t care who you are or what economic situation you’re in; high, medium, low, no income, or unemployed.”
However, tax experts say those forms and schedules are actually designed to help people save money.
“If you have knowledge about how it works, you can utilize the tax code to benefit you more in the long run,” explained Fola Financial founder Sheneya Wilson. “However, most people don’t have that knowledge, and I think that is what creates this fear of the IRS and paying taxes when essentially the tax code is not there to harm anyone”

Why It’s So Hard To File And Pay U.S. Taxes
source
I used the h&r block for free filing and paid nothing. First time doing them without paying $150+ from a tax place. I wish i would've known about the free filing 😂
Every Republican flat tax proposal I've ever seen, and there have been a lot over the last 45 years, includes ZERO capital gains, dividend and corporate taxes. So the rich won't pay ANY taxes, since they get all or almost all of their income via those methods. How would the gov handle that loss of revenue? Cut and eliminate social programs.
Why would she pay State income tax to New York? She didn't generate an income in New York.
The IRS purposefully makes it confusing so they can steal more money from american citizens. Next.
Think the US tax system is insane in the USA?
It's a human rights abuse outside.
More like freedom for the oligarchs think about the people actually using these deductions cause it surely ain’t the proletariat they don’t need to “navigate” the tax system to earn Pennys on the dollar get real we know the real reason this is in place to benefit one group
You might as wel, Tax The A***
im from chile, ive worked since im 18, im 32 now, i never ever filled any tax report, the only time you have to fill something for taxes is when youre self employed (contractor)
Why are citizens doing the irs ‘s job?
Tax in the uk is all automated
it just dumb, you dont need like a whole essay or a video to explain it, it just dumb as hell
Why it has to be so complicated!
Great inclusion in the video at 4 approx. mins – why DO we get taxed by household, not individually??
Taxes are so confusing that even people talking about why it’s confusing, is confusing to me. The government, IRS, taxes, all this crap makes me wish everything just stopped working and we were forced to live like our ancestors did. I’d probably have better chances hunting my food and providing for my family like that….than doing a simple tax return lol.
because liberals want to control people. They only care about equality not fairness, so they are more concern with making up for life's inequalities, than about thins like work and investment.
All people are born equal in rights and biological needs, but not when it comes to wealth, desires and work abilities.
A fair income tax would tax all income that exceeds basic necessities ( like food, clothing, health care, commuting to work, and financial loss) at the same rate, as well as promoting good financial decisions like donating to charity, investing and saving for education, healthcare and retirement.
It’s absolutely criminal that there is a multibillion dollar industry that exists solely to solve the incompetence of the IRS in making coherent tax law. The government sucks!
Are you kidding me? You frame this video like the complex tax structure is a good thing. It isn't. We need to change to return free filing and if people want to challenge that, let them go ahead and do it after there is a bill or refund from the government. Also, why don't you mention the lobbying efforts by companies like intuit who make a fortune on selling tax software to a stupidly complex structure? Everyone basically needs to use some sort of tax preparation software or someone to help complete this. It's so dumb.
What's funny is people would probably get audited on the returns the IRS filled for them and have to pay thousands in fines and interest.
Tax is confusing in the US because it is done so.
*No guide or confusing guide
*Terms you need to know
*Calculations you need to know
*Brackets you need to know
*Deductions you need to know
*etc etc
Mostly the reason why people goes to a tax preparer is
A.) They can't understand the tax form.
B.) They don't have time, to learn different complex stuff.
If IRS really wants to, not make things confusing.
One way is to make a flowchart that tells which forms or schedules a person should be getting.
(Technically this is what tax app does)
Can consider whatever ideas you suggest, But, doing what Europe does.
They make it complicated to weed out and take advantage of the people who lack the knowledge and the motivation to learn.
Instead of making benefits through tax breaks and deductions, why not simplify the code and provide programs and social security payments?
The IRS already has this information. Stocks, bonds, W-2, 1099 etc. It's like were going to test you to see if your telling the truth and create another complicated layer. Makes no sense!
It's a simple answer! 1) Big business..i.e H&R Block and Intuit admitted there business model would collapse if the tax code was simplified. B) Congress can't give Big Business..i.e dole out favors for campaign contributions.
Unreal
