Why The U.S. Has Millions Of Leaking Oil And Gas Wells

1. This is very irresponsible reporting, there are not millions of leaking oil and gas wells. Texas has millions of what they call orphaned wells, these are handled by the Texas railroad commission and generally do not meet the definition of what the federal government deems to be an orphaned well. There is approximately 115-135k orphaned wells in the USA, that we know about. These are mainly in the eastern half of the USA and came to the feds via private acquired leases. These are a big problem but not nearly to the scale that is presented here. In areas with active management there are very few orphaned wells.

2. Remedy is plug the well or forfeit the property it resides on.

3. Methane is a naturally occurring gas, you fart 💨 Methane! It’s not a significant problem. Global warming is a scam! Oil and gas wells are not “man made” emissions, it’s naturally occurring in the earth.

When you wanna bit a subdivision in a community the developer generally has to pre-pay for curbs sidewalks and roads which must be complete and pre-paid to ensure that the job is complete when finished. Companies who drill wells should be required to prepay for the sealing of the well knowing one day the well will die ensuring that they are not bankrupt or using loopholes. Very simple legislation!!??

    When you operate an oil/gas well, you're dealing with constant govt involvment both state & fed..
    When you stop operating a well, it takes mere weeks for the people in charge to find out & give you your choices. Leaving a non operating well unplugged is expensive, & nobody does it…..

18. What a pile of nonsense. Native Americans used to take internally crude oil to settle an upset stomach. Now it's a drastic environmental issue. Methane?? Next thing you know, we all have to have fart meters attached, and have to pay a fart tax. 30. Why are the tax payers on the hook? A specific clean up tax or fee should be applied to every barrel extracted from the grocery. With mergers and acquisitions none of the oil and gas companies are innocent. Besides its the consumer who will pay which brings the retail price closer to the true cost.
