In rural towns across the U.S. hospitals are in crisis. Since 2010, 121 rural hospitals have closed. And, the National Rural Health Association says more than one-third of all rural hospitals in the U.S. are at serious risk of shutting down.
But not all hospitals are losing money. A series of mergers and acquisitions that began in the 1990’s has created massive hospital groups. Many of these hospital consortiums are turning huge profits every year by offering high priced services to well insured patients.

Why U.S. Hospitals Are Closing
source
United States aint working together like they suppose to 😮.
All these billionaires and millionaires in this country u mean to tell me they can't donate to these hospitals 😮 damn shame.💯
Good night beautiful people definitely definitely it's hard to trust somebody😂❤
If the hospital concierge reason to stay in your town, then you need to rethink that in my country if there’s no hospital and you need a hospital, you do not live in that town. Leaving you should have the right to stay where you are is a false idea.
The losses actually economically that means including profit, so they were just not making enough profit
They keep you sick to make money off you
We are not the ginne pigs no more
The state of Wisconsin senate needs to fix this hospitals closures
United States of closures n foreclosures. Let's go
Just as NYC gets 150000 uninsured people. Brilliant
I work at a hospital in the pharmacy. The amount of things that just get thrown away is mind boggling. Im not saying that we should reuse stuff, but when you see a $500+ inhaler just get scrapped with one or two uses, and thats not even the expensive stuff, its wild
Well one reason knee surgeries only take a day now vs staying in hospital for a week is probably because nobody can afford to pay for a week of staying in a hospital.
Just look at China or Portugal, countries with very low health care costs: hospitals are predominantly govt owned enterprises, yet both have a free market economy.
The US medical system works great for you as long as you don't get sick.
Funny how Ukraine can get billions but we can't afford our own hospitals. Yeah.
Part of it is nurses get paid garbage and short staffing it’s unsafe…. Instead of wasting federal and local $$$$ save our hospitals
People are afraid to go to these places after everything they have found out

How uk health care works
"A series of mergers and acquisitions have created mammoth hospital groups". Take out hospital and put in agriculture, pharmaceutical, communications, etc. We pretty much live in an oligarchy and with politicians sucking up to their special interest sugar daddies, it is. not going to get better.
Thank you for this clarity. What do I think? I see this trend as just one more part of the disaster that is resulting from the last fifty years of growing emphasis on profit. It is not just that the hospitals for the rural and poor are disappearing (and I bet the urban poor are also going to find themselves abandoned) and good medical care is only for the rich, but the doctors themselves are being corrupted by, for one, the huge influence of the very rich pharmaceutical companiea. America is being destroyed from within, divied up and eaten alive by its own ever–descending moral values. Their bigness along with the concomitant diminution of everybody else is grotessque, and also unnatural, that is, against nature. An abomination.
I know a lot of people with private health insurance just won't go to the doctor because the deductibles are so high. It's like not having any insurance at all so why bother?
Nah – I still want to know where is the HERO PAY that was supposed to go to the healthcare workers who went toe-to-toe with treating COVID-19 patients? I know damn well they did not receive the pay they deserve and what bothers me is that those rich, GREEDY mofos/heffas at the top are also the same ones who are CHEAP and won't use that money to hire new people, buy new med tech, etc.
That’s just freaking sad… they treat these places like some Business enterprises like people in full of suits ready to make an investment… these places are for saving lives Man!
Illegals not paying
You can trace the acceleration of hospitals closing right back to the start of Obamacare. Obamacare forced hospitals to treat people with non urgent or emergent medical issues in their emergency rooms. ER visits are far more expensive than an urgent care or primary care doctor office. Hospitals used to be able to turf non emergencies to the clinics and urgent cares to reduce the overcrowding in the US ER’s. But as soon as Obamacare was enacted, the overcrowding got far worse. And the reimbursement rates were significantly reduced which caused hospitals to increase their billing rates to offset this. But running any place in the red for an extended period of time will lead to reduced services and closure of services and then hospital closures. And now here we are giving free care to non citizens in several states with zero reimbursement from states or the federal government since these folks do not qualify for assistance like Medicaid. And Obamacare led to a bigger shortage of nurses because of the awful treatment by hospital administrators because Obamacare fined hospitals for patients returning to emergency rooms within 48hrs of a previous visit or readmission to the hospital after being recently discharged. I know all of this as fact and first hand as I have worked in nursing since 1994.

Guess thats a bit of karma for trashy health system in america
Americans know the solution, but Americans have been so badly screwed by the private sector that they will even fight to defend it.
Illegals are crashing US hospitals.
For profit hospitals are run in the cutthroat capitalist systems!
Fine ?
Federal Government can and should run the Rural and inner cities Municipal Hospitals with a National Health Care System with the Public Health Service taking over the majority of the workloads and funding.
Why not?
Federal government already runs the VA Hospitals and BOP has Federal Prison Hospitals.
Rural and Inner Cities population need some level of healthcare rather than just nothing, don’t they?
Health care are the biggest lobbyist in Washington and the democrats and republicans have their pant pocket wide open that is why trump the man you all hated wanted to put an end to it trump was already wealthy he didn't need to have his pockets open
Dear commenters, I hail you from the future where the US president is lavishing your money, billions, on war in Ukraine.
Mayo does high end procedures such as transplants that bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars each. they try to be cutting edge. They will do a transplant as long as you have the insurance to cover it.
