Shawn Tsao almost became an architect. Instead, he’s a co-founder of food delivery company Caviar, which sold to DoorDash in 2019 for $410 million.

How I Built A $400 Million Food Delivery Company Called Caviar | Founder Effect
source
Well done!
Beautiful story!
how it was different from Uber Eat? What was the USP ?
Great story I wish you had deep dived into what was so unique about the Cavier app that Square paid a 100m for. Also what made their app stand out from the competitors?
he picked a great time to sell!
Is it a good idea to use a personal loan to consolidate and pay off credit card debt or to invest?
WOw I love this
Is he single?
If anyone wants to follow in this man’s footsteps, all you need to do is make a delivery app that is just like Caviar. If one of you can actually develop a food delivery app that is fair to restaurants, delivery drivers AND customers (like Caviar was), then you can potentially blow DoorTrash, UberWreaks and GrubScrub out of the water. Lots of drivers are suffering now because of how poorly DoorTrash and other delivery apps treat their drivers, and customers are sick of paying insanely high amounts of money just to have the majority of those “delivery fees” go directly to the CEO and other corporate goons when they would rather see that money go into the hands of delivery drivers. Trust me – IT IS STILL POSSIBLE TO BUILD SUCH AN APP. You just need to do it. 👍
P.S. I don’t do it because I have no idea how to even start programming such a thing. 🤣
Tsao's story is a testament to the opportunities that can arise when individuals are open to exploring different paths and seizing unique entrepreneurial opportunities. 🚀
How much did they make each ?
Worthy
Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful and well-presented. Your time and effort is most appreciated!
Wow it's true if we have passion we can get through hardest days and not give up
What's special about this delivery app?
Very inspiring story! Great job!
I am in Los Angeles California, I have an idea of a delicious Sandwich that could open a franchise by itself, I have worked and saved, in 3 months I will have 20 thousand dollars, if someone is interested in creating and placing a new product to the market, we can communicate and talk about it, thank you for your time
I remember using caviar on the web in 2015 pre app days working in the app space at a Wework in nyc. Fun days
All of them have an English name, intersting.
this was an amazing video– it's really inspiring to see someone from UC Berkeley succeed with hard work and determination. go bears!
wow, a lot of success stories coming out from Berkeley!
I think you should get a MBA too since you are too smart not to get it. You are a genius.
Inspiring story of grit against all odds, David and Goliath.
They have it in California and it’s so bad 😅 Door dash ruined it.
Are these comments below bought? They sound incredibly fake and paid for.
Wish I could do this too
Amazing story
If you aren't from a prestigious university, wealthy and somewhat handsome, you won't get investors, they will simply steal your idea.
That's my pledge bro! So proud of you Shawn, Jason, and the entire Caviar team! I remember when this started from the frat house =)
Caviar was the best food delivery app for drivers and customers until door dash ruined it.
interesting. Rich people food app, vs poor people food app.
Hows this app different than DoorDash??
Same same same again and again and again. This start up made money and didn't tip the development scale by 0.00001. what's the point?
Doordash sucks
Nothing but scammers in these comments, don't bother with anyone's fake accounts promising millions in financial advice
So, Caviar became DoorDash. Let me tell you at $5 dollar orders DoorDash has collapsed. This is an wnd of an era.
He didn't build anything programers did he was just an in-between that got favored by white investora to pay those programers. I am in the delivery business and ittgoing down hill fast. In 2024 UberEats and DoorDash won't be a thing.
Anyone wants to team up building something?
Is about surrounding yourself with the right people. All of them are multimillionaire by themselves
The headline is misleading. They sold the company to Square for US$100 million and Square sold it to Doordash for US$410million
he needed to stay with it longer
Never heard of them
When he mentioned the MBA it made me certain that Asian parents will be Asian parents
good video
