At Nvidia’s headquarters, the AI chips that propelled the company to a $2-trillion valuation were used in custom software that helped design the space-ship-like buildings. The tech company’s office in Santa Clara, California, is now one of the most sought-after places to work.

WSJ took a tour of the campus – and chased down a robot – to find out what an office with over one million square feet looks like.

  1. Tons of wasted space. I bet they lecture people on being green , meanwhile waste space, energy and money. Nice building though, just stop lecturing people on being green.

  2. Nvidia and Apple are polar opposites in work environments. Nvidia opts for openness, a free exchange of ideas. Apple is arranged in pods, where one pod has no idea what another is working on and secrecy prevails. Looks like it is the quality of the people and their motivation that matters and work environment is not so important.

  3. Wait a minute how it became the most sought after place to work? I clearly remember 4 years ago everyone wanted to work at Apple and maybe other tech giants like Google or Microsoft or even Amazon (as a software engineer) the fact that stock price makes people think differently is wild.

  4. Wow! Most illuminating. Literally and figuratively! A Frisbee and biking and hiking park would be nice; with, a long sloping, meandering skateboard perimeter that terminates at an elevator or stairs to take you back to the top. And if you're going to have all of that might as well have a hang glider trebuchet also.

  5. What a bleak and soulless place to work. The greenery does nothing to mitigate the cold look.

The fact that the lifts are "hidden" away says a lot about the company's attitude towards those who have special needs.

  6. I am way too introverted to work in a space like this. And there's too many distractions for my mild ADHD. I would never be able to concentrate long enough to get anything done.
