Why The French Love American Fast Food

33

Despite its reputation for gastronomy, France has become an American fast-food mecca. Between 2019 and 2023, more than 1,300 fast-food restaurants opened in the country, and over the past decade, sales increased by 61%. McDonald’s has the biggest stronghold because of its first-mover advantage. But Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, KFC and Five Guys are expanding their reach. New players like Popeyes and Krispy Kreme moved in for the first time in early 2024 as French consumers continue to seek affordable and convenient food options.

  1. Well… who doesn’t love Hamburgers or Pizza or Fries or Tacos and Burritos? But then again, do any of these foods ORIGINATE from US? I thought these foods were from Germany, Italy, Belgium and Mexico.

  2. Trust me… it's not because of the food and flavor. It's mostly because it's muchhhh cheaper than local restaurants and eateries. A burger costs the same as a cup of coffee at some local coffee shop….

  3. To be realistic, this fast food market is only a big city student thing, people outside of big cities aren’t fan of fast foods and even in big cities 30+ years old people rarely go to a fast food.

  4. I used to love fast food when it was cheap and fast. But now it's no longer cheap nor fast. If I'm going to pay $15 for a meal I'm going to a fast casual establishment like Chipotle or five guys

  5. They are american-owned, but their recipes are sourced from all over the world and cater to local tastes.
Even f.i. the pizza from those chains is more global than Italian
