26. Seems clear to me this is not about the law, or even "election interference" (well that part is obvious anyway) but – as in all of his criminal trials – about getting a mistrial, which would lead to postponement until after the election. Stall tactics, as simple as that.

    So, really, if anyone is interfering with the election, it's IQ45 himself who's doing that.

27. I would disagree that Judge Merchan would hesitate to go with the nuclear option of putting Trump in the big house for contempt if Trump pushes the boundaries too far. Merchan has run a tight ship on this case from the get-go. He set a trial date a year (which supposedly is a normal pretrial phase because New York's court system is as slow as a wet week) out and said "we are going to trial on that date rain, hail or shine." (Paraphrasing but words to that effect). He agreed to step aside for Judge Chutkin and when it became clear that case wasn't going to go, he said to the parties "Well Donald, your calender has cleared up for that March date. See you at the end of March." When that delay did happen, he set the shortest possible delay and took Trump's lawyers to task for causing it.

    He's a judge in the mould of Judge Kaplan who handled the E.Jean Carroll trials expertly and Merchan's trial is a criminal trial unlike Judge Kaplan's, so the threshold for reaching for the criminal contempt (jail) lever is lower.

    So I am willing to place $20 (my betting limit on the pokies) that we could very well see a headline "Trump jailed for criminal contempt in New York hush money case" before the trial is over.
