Trump rejects Zelensky’s proposal, has no intention of visiting Ukraine

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump does not think it would be a good idea for him to travel to Ukraine while he does not hold public office, Reuters reported, citing his campaign.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky told outlets of the German-based Axel Springer media group that he had privately invited Trump through intermediaries to visit his country.
The former US leader, who is likely headed for a rematch with incumbent Joe Biden in November’s election, has previously claimed that he would resolve the Ukraine conflict within “24 hours” if he were president.
While Trump offered few clues as to how he might accomplish this task, the Washington Post reported that it would involve Kiev recognizing Russian sovereignty over some of the territories currently claimed by Ukraine. The ex-president’s aides, however, have dismissed the report as “speculation” by uninformed sources.
Zelensky has been skeptical about Trump’s ideas for making peace with Moscow, saying that “if the deal is that we just give up our territories… then it’s a very primitive idea.”
In a statement to Reuters, Trump’s team insisted that there had been no formal outreach from Zelensky to the 45th president. “President Trump has said publicly it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to go to Ukraine right now since he’s not commander in chief,” the statement added.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration’s approach to the Ukraine conflict, saying Washington is sending too many weapons to Kiev. He has also floated a proposal to provide Ukraine with loans instead of non-repayable aid. While Ukrainian officials said they were ready to explore the idea, Politico reported that Kiev was “offended” by this plan.
Meanwhile, commenting on Trump’s remarks about peace in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow has had no contacts with Trump on the issue, adding that the ex-president’s plan had too few details publicly available.

  19. Of course Trump won't go to Ukraine. He tried to extort Pres. Zelenskyy (via a "perfect phone call") — demanding that Pres. Z declare that his govt. was investigating Hunter Biden re. Burisma, as a quid pro quo for sending $400m in military aid already authorized by Congress — an extortion attempt for which Trump would be impeached. Trump has repeatedly praised Putin for his strength and "genius" and Russia for its power and culture; Trump hosted RF Foreign Min. Sergey Lavrov and a RF ambassador to the Oval Office in the spring of 2016; Trump has held private discussions with Putin three occasions in which he prevented translators' notes from being duly filed and recorded by the US govt. (on at least one occasion, Trump was said to have literally raced around, grabbing the sensitive papers, and tore them up); and Trump has repeatedly criticized our NATO partners, dismissed the significance and merit of our top military alliance, and publicly encouraged Putin to do whatever he wishes against NATO should Trump win re-election. And most recently, ex-State Dept. Eastern Europe Dept. officer Fiona Hill has claimed that Trump was explicitly clear in his desire for Russia to take over Ukraine completely: that Ukraine properly belongs to Russia.

    And never forget that when protesters were taking to the streets in Washington, D.C., Trump immediately hid in the basement. He's a physical coward as well as a moral one, who finagled five Vietnam draft deferments on the grounds of "bone spurs".

    We signed a treaty to defend Ukraine if they would give all their nukes back to Russia. America doesn't keep her promises? Same thing applies to Taiwan, Carter signed the Taiwan Relations Act 1979, taking Taiwan out of the UN and inserting Main Land China. He reduced the Democratic Chinese people to, not a nation but don't worry, we will sell you expensive arms and we will defend you if you are ever attacked. So, are we going to keep our word or not. Israel, are we going to defend them or watch them die? We keep our word and in the future, are more careful about giving our word to do things our politicians don't want to do. No Trump for me if he pulls support from Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel.
